DIY Hand Embroidery Motif – Floral Umbrella

Hi everyone!

I just got back to school from my spring break vacation.  While away, I made a few really cute projects!

This little project and another one I’ll post later in the week, were made while my little, Jessica, and I were delayed in the airport for four hours! Four hours!!! IMG_8649Supplies:

This is the umbrella pattern we will be following!

It’s so cute and perfect for spring! IMG_8640I like to start by printing out the design and tracing over it with a Sharpie.

The Sharpie makes the lines so much easier to see while you’re tracing! IMG_8644Trace your image onto the fabric. IMG_8646Hoop your fabric.

It’s okay if the image is a little off center.  You can always go back and fix that later! IMG_8652We’re going to start with the light pink thread and Back Stitch the handle and top of the umbrella. IMG_8655Use the medium pink to stitch the dome of the umbrella. IMG_8658Stitch the curved handle as well.

I don’t know why the handle is so fat on one side.  That’s the way the design shows it though, so I just went with it! IMG_8661Continue stitching the upper portion of the umbrella.

If you don’t want to add the floral embellishment, you can stop here. The umbrella is adorable with or without the flower! IMG_8665Use the green thread to stitch the stem.

I used the Back Stitch instead of the Stem Stitch for this part because I still haven’t mastered the Stem Stitch.  Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t! 🙁 IMG_8667Use the Satin Stitch for the center of the flower.

The Satin Stitch is another stitch that I need a little bit more practice with! Maybe I’ll start making some projects exclusively with the Satin Stitch!  That should definitely help me learn it! IMG_8669Depending on how large your petals are, you can use either Lazy Daisies or the Back Stitch.

I went with the Back Stitch because my petals were a little larger. IMG_8716Once the flower is complete, our project is done!

That was so quick and easy!

I love the way this one turned out!

Happy Crafting!! Bow signature pink
