Easy DIY: Washi Tape Birthday Card - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

Easy DIY: Washi Tape Birthday Card

I love giving gifts, but I’m not so great at giving cards with them. I’m more focused on the gift itself (gifts are my love language after all) than I am on the card, so if you do happen to get one from me, consider yourself lucky! All that is soon to change though with this super easy DIY washi tape birthday card. With a few supplies and a few minutes, you can make the cutest candle card to accompany any celebratory gift!

Washi Tape Birthday Card

Take one greeting card and set it down open side toward you.

Next, take one piece of washi and place it in the middle of your card about halfway up.

Once you have your tape where you want it, trim as close to the card as you can without cutting into the card. If you do accidentally cut into the card, that’s okay! I definitely did once or twice!

Continue placing and trimming tape until you reach the edge of the card.

I added my patterned tapes in random order, but you could do an alternating pattern or something like that if you’d like! That would be super cute!

Easy DIY: Washi Tape Birthday Card - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

When you reach the edge, you may notice that your last piece of tape extends beyond the side of the card.

Easy DIY: Washi Tape Birthday Card - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

If that’s the case, trim the bottom as usual and also trim the tape on the side.

Now that you have one side done, start adding tape “candles” in the other direction. As you’re adding tape, make sure to vary the height of each strip.

There’s no rhyme or reason to how I varied my tape height. I just kept shifting up and down.

Easy DIY: Washi Tape Birthday Card - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

When you get to the other edge, trim the excess tape off the bottom and the side just like before.

When you’re all done adding tape, your card should look something like this.

Take the yellow marker and begin adding teardrops (flames) above each candle. Leave a little bit of space between the bottom of each teardrop and the top of each candle.

Easy DIY: Washi Tape Birthday Card - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

Your card should look something like this when you finish with the teardrops.

Easy DIY: Washi Tape Birthday Card - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

Begin adding wicks to connect each candle with its flame.

Start a little below the center of each teardrop and draw a straight line down to the top of each candle. Be careful not to touch your black pen to the washi tape.

Work your way across the card until each candle has a wick.

Easy DIY: Washi Tape Birthday Card - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

Ta-da! Look how cute your candles are!

Now, you’re all set to add a message to your washi tape birthday card and give it to a friend!

Whether you have lots to do each day or just a few important tasks on your plate, this to-do list printable is perfect for you! I’m a note-taker and list-maker — always have been and always will be. I’m all about my to-do list, and I know that a few of you are too!

This to-do list printable is another installment in my classic planner insert series. The classic series is made up of all the PBTT A5 printables you know and love but revamped with a san serif font. To-Do List Printable

As I mentioned above, I LOVE to make lists. More than that, I love to make my lists the old-fashioned way — with pen and paper. That’s not to say I don’t have lists on my phone. I definitely do. But when given the choice, I choose pen and paper over my ‘Notes’ app every time!

This insert is pretty straightforward. There’s a place for the date or the range of dates that your list encompasses, and there are 18 lines for tasks and circles for checkmarks.

Weekly Calendar Printable: Classic Planner Insert

Whether you have tons of events, appointments, and to-dos each week or whether you have a calm week with just a few tasks, it’s nice to have a weekly calendar printable where you can write everything down!

As you may already know, this classic weekly calendar printable is another installment in my new planner series. This series will be made up of all the PBTT A5 printables you know and love but revamped with a classic san serif font. I love the original brush script printables but wanted to offer something that would appeal to more planners. Thus the “classic printable” was born!

Weekly Calendar Printable

These inserts are undated like all my other printables, so they can be used at any time. They also begin on a Monday, so that the weekend is bunched together making it easier to mark weekend trips and such.

I used inserts just like this one for over a year and really loved them! There’s tons of space to write down your tasks, appointments, and to-dos each day. There’s even a spot to look ahead for the next week. I loved using that section for little reminders and things I wanted to make sure not to forget from one week to the next.

As I mentioned last week, I’ve started a new classic printables series! This series will be made up of all the PBTT A5 printables you know and love but revamped with a classic san serif font. Monthly Calendar Printable: Classic Planner Insert

Nothing beats a good month-at-a-glance calendar, right?! It’s so convenient keeping all your important appointments, events, meetings, and more in one easy-to-see place with a classic monthly calendar printable.

Monthly Calendar Printable: Classic Planner Insert - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

I know what you’re probably thinking.

“Hey Natalie, we’ve seen you release this monthly calendar printable before! What’s the deal?”

Well, this calendar is the first installment of my new “Classic” printable series. The classic series will be full of all the PBTT A5 printables you know and love in a classic san serif font as opposed to the modern brush script that the original versions feature.

I’m a huge fan of brush script (hello, hand letterer!), but I know that a classic “fewer frills” font will work really well (maybe, even better) for a lot of you planners! So, I thought the classic option would be a fun avenue for us to explore!

[Related: Monthly Calendar: Free Printable Planner Insert]

Monthly Calendar Printable: Classic Planner Insert - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

In my regular fashion, I’ve left all the details blank, so you can use this calendar any time you’d like! When a month takes up six rows instead of five, you can add a diagonal line to the affected boxes to make everything fit correctly.

Just like the modern script version, I strayed from the traditional “Sunday start” and began each week on a Monday to make it easier to plan events that span both Saturday and Sunday.  And if you enjoy planning with stickers, this layout makes it much easier to use a weekend banner!

Back to School: Top 5 School Supplies - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

Top 5 School Supplies for Back to School

It’s that time of year again! For me, back-to-school time ranks up there with Christmas and my birthday! There’s just something about pretty pens and new notebooks. I may not be a student anymore, but I still can’t get enough of the supplies! I’ve broken down my top 5 school supplies into categories below. Enjoy!

Back to School: Top 5 School Supplies - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

Top 5 School Supplies

1) Notebooks

May Designs - Top 5 School SuppliesMay Designs May Books

I LOVE notebooks from May Designs! If you follow me on Instagram, then you’ve definitely seen my collection before. I have over 20 of these notebooks, so it just makes sense to have them as #1 on my list of top 5 school supplies! Each May Book is completely customizable. You can choose the size of the notebook, the cover art, text on the front, and the inside pages. I wish I had known about these notebooks when I was in school. I’d have had one for each and every subject!

Moleskine Journal - Top 5 School SuppliesMoleskine Cahier Journal

These journals are similar in size to the Classic May Books above. Perfect for slipping in your bag and taking notes on the go! I love the kraft paper cover and how easy they are to decorate on your own. No decoration is necessary though. The kraft paper is classic and chic.

2) Pens & Pencils

Paper Mate InkJoy Gel - Top 5 School SuppliesPaper Mate InkJoy Gel Pens

I’ve been using these pens for years and absolutely love them. The colors are bright and fun. The gel ink is smooth, dries very quickly, and rarely ever smears! Nowadays, I use my black ones the most but like to break out the colored pens for special occasions and birthday cards!

Paper Mate Flair Pens are a lot of fun too! Middle school, high school, and college Natalie got in on the Flair pen action! For a while there, I was using them every single day. There are just so many colors to choose from!

Cynthia Rowley Pens - Top 5 School Supplies

Cynthia Rowley Ballpoint Pens

If gel pens aren’t your thing, which I totally understand, perhaps you’ll like these ballpoint pens. There’s nothing too exciting about how this pen writes. The real excitement is the appearance. Wow, aren’t these gorgeous! They come in silver and rose gold. The silver is nice, but rose gold is my absolute favorite!

U Brands Pens - Top 5 School SuppliesUBrands Ballpoint Pens

Another great option if you prefer ballpoint pens. UBrands has quite a few pattern options when it comes to their pens. I have dotted ones, striped ones, floral ones, and ombre ones. They also offer them in felt tip. I have a few of those and love them too!

Paper Mate Clearpoint - Top 5 School Supplies

Paper Mate Clearpoint Mechanical Pencil

When it comes to crafting, I like to use wooden pencils. When it comes to schoolwork and lengthy writing, I’m all about the mechanical! I think I’ve been using these mechanical pencils since middle school. I’m that big of a fan. I’ve tried others and always come back to the Clearpoint 0.7. There’s just nothing better.

3) Highlighters

Zebra Mildliner Highlighter

I recently discovered these highlighters and absolutely love them! They come in tons of different colors and most of the colors are light enough to be easily seen through. If high school Natalie had known about these, they definitely would’ve been in her pencil pouch!

Bic Brite Liner - Top 5 School SuppliesBic Brite Liner Highlighter

If you’re all business when it comes to highlighters, I get that too. College Natalie used these Bic Brite Liners every single day. They’re inexpensive and work great! You never have to worry about the ink being too dark to see through either. Yellow highlighters are a classic for a reason.

4) Sticky Notes

Post-it Notes - Top 5 School SuppliesPost-it Notes

Over the years, I’ve collected tons of cute, themed sticky notes. Every time I go to use them, I have one problem though. They never seem to stick. And if a sticky note doesn’t stick, what’s it good for? Post-it Notes always stick, and they come in lots of colors. You just can’t go wrong with them!

5) Planners

You can’t go back to school without a good planner! Over the years, I’ve tried out my fair share of planning styles. The below planners and planning styles work best for where I am and what I’m doing in my life right now. Other great planners include the Erin Condren LifePlanner and the Day Designer.

Simplified Planner - Top 5 School SuppliesEmily Ley Simplified Planner

I’ve been using a Simplified Planner for a little over a year now. At work, I use it more as a dated to-do list than a place to keep track of meetings. It has a page for every day (except for the weekend) and lives up to its name when it comes to simplicity. I’m a big fan! I’ll be buying another one in the next few weeks for 2019.

Dots & Boxes Game – Free Printable Insert

It’s Thursday, which means it’s time for another Busy Book printable! Say hello to the dots and boxes game printable freebie! While making this printable, I discovered that this game is also called Pigs in a Pen, Dot to Dot, Squares, and much, much more! Whatever you like to call it, it’s fun, easy to play, and can get intense if you play with the right people!

Dots & Boxes Game - Free Printable Insert - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

If you’re unfamiliar with Dots & Boxes, here is how you play according to Wikipedia:

“Starting with an empty grid of dots, two players take turns adding a single horizontal or vertical line between two unjoined adjacent dots. The player who completes the fourth side of a 1×1 box earns one point and takes another turn. (A point is typically recorded by placing a mark that identifies the player in the box, such as an initial.) The game ends when no more lines can be placed. The winner is the player with the most points.”
