POPSUGAR Must Have Spring 2020 Review

Spring is wrapping up and summer is quickly approaching, which means it’s about time I shared my POPSUGAR Must Have Spring 2020 review! If you’ve been a PBTT reader for any length of time, then you’ll know I’ve been a POPSUGAR subscriber for many, many years! I still have mixed feelings about their switch from monthly to seasonal boxes, but no matter what, I love seeing these boxes show up in my mailbox!

If you’re interested in subscribing too, you can get $20 off your first box! What a great deal!

POPSUGAR Must Have Spring 2020 Review

My Lab, Parker, loves checking out my boxes each season and looking to see if any of the items are for him! Unfortunately for him, none of the items this season are for pups! I did try to put the blue-light glasses on him and he was NOT having it! LOL

Popsugar Spring 2020 Beauty

Omorovicza – Magic Moisture Mist – Retail Value $95

I’m always so intrigued by the beauty items that POPSUGAR includes each season. They’re typically from high-ends brands I’ve never tried before.

This moisture mist certainly fits that bill! I had to enlist one of my friends to help me figure out what exactly a ‘moisture mist’ is for. She’s a beauty guru and let me know a few different ways this spray can be used. After trying a few different things, I decided that I like it best when sprayed right after my morning moisturizer and before I apply my foundation.

If you’re wary about face sprays, this one really is great! The mist is SO FINE, way better than some of the other options out there. If you’ve ever used a ‘chunky’ face spray, then you know how important and refreshing a nice mist can be!

Glow Recipe – Avocado Melt Retinol Eye Sleeping Mask – Retail Value $42

I LOVE a good eye mask! Especially one that is clearly marked with its intended daypart. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been bitten by eye creams that are for daytime use and are not labeled as such.

If you’ve never experienced the horrible sleep (or complete lack thereof) that comes with using a daytime eye cream at night, you are extremely lucky. If you have experienced all that loveliness, then give this eye cream a try! It’s rich, a pretty green color, and doesn’t disrupt your beauty sleep with caffeine.

POPSUGAR Spring 2020 Dishware

Canvas Home – Shell Bisque Cereal Bowls – Retail Value $66

If you know anything about me, then you probably know that I LOVE color! Light colors, dark colors, bright colors — all colors are for me!

Here’s a peak inside my dish cabinet. As you can see these new cereal bowls (pictured bottom right) fit right in!

Have you ever seen a happier kitchen cabinet? I sure haven’t!

POPSUGAR Spring 2020 Lifestyle

Bluma Project – Luna Necklace in Sand – Retail Value $75

This season, we were able to choose what color necklace we wanted. Between blue and beige-blush, I clearly went with the more neutral option!

I don’t wear a ton of statement jewelry these days but figured that the more neutral option would be best. I’m definitely more likely to wear it if it’s easy to match with my clothes.

Unfortunately, we’ve been on quarantine since my box arrived, so I haven’t had a chance to take this necklace for a spin yet. I’m excited to pair it with a few things as soon as quarantine lifts though. I think it’ll look great with a black blouse and high-waisted jeans!

The Book Club – Anti Blue Light Lenses – Retail Value $30

I’ve been intrigued by blue-light glasses for some time now, so I was very excited to see these included in my box this season. POPSUGAR let us choose between four styles, and I went with a clear, cateye shape. I have a pair of prescription cateye glasses, which I adore, so I figured cateye would be fun for these too.

I wear prescription glasses almost everyday and always at work, so I knew when I tried these out, I’d have to wear my contacts. I have pretty dry eyes, so I typically only wear contacts on days when I’m in the water or doing a big activity.

After trying blue-light glasses, I don’t think I’m a big fan. It’s not the glasses’ fault though. The glasses are super cute and very nice, they just aren’t for me.

I found that my eyes get too dry while wearing my contacts to comfortably wear them for a full workday. Also, it’s quite distracting that the second you put the glasses on, your entire field of vision has a yellow tint. I understand that’s how the technology works, but I just can’t get behind that. I work with a lot of color in my life and am not comfortable wearing glasses that distort my perception of that color. Like I said though, that’s all on me and not the glasses. The glasses are adorable and functional if you have the right eyes!

POPSUGAR Spring 2020 Crystals

Smudge Wellness – Glow Spell – Retail Value $49.50

Here’s another item that’s pretty but just not for me. I’m not a believer in crystals, tarot cards, etc., so I’m just not quite sure what to do with these.

I work with a girl who is all about crystals though, so I may check with her and see if she’s interested in these ones!

POPSUGAR Spring 2020 Special Extras

Yogi – Blackberry Apple Cider Digestive Awakening Tea – Special Extra

I love a good cup of tea! Especially caffeine-free tea before bed. There’s just something so soothing about it.

I was a little skeptical of the ‘apple cider vinegar’ aspect, but as long as you don’t sniff the tea bag too hard before steeping, you might never notice that it has apple cider vinegar in it. All in all, a very tasty before-bed tea option.

Clorox Scentiva – Disinfecting Wipes – Special Extra

Like I mentioned earlier, I received this box right after the mandatory quarantine started her in Florida. I don’t think POPSUGAR could’ve planned a better extra than Clorox wipes! How convenient that these showed up at my door right as all the stores were selling out of cleaning supplies!

I already have an open container of wipes, so I’m saving these to begin using as soon as my current container is empty. I’m most looking forward to the grapefruit one — citrus is one of my all-time favorite scents!

POPSUGAR Must Have Spring 2020 Review

Well there you have it, my full POPSUGAR Must Have Spring 2020 review! This box has a total retail value of $357.50, which is remarkable! My favorite items this season (and Parker’s favorites too) are the eye cream and the cereal bowls!

What about you? Do you subscribe to POPSUGAR Must Have? If so, what are your favorite items this season? If you don’t already subscribe, grab $20 off your first box!

Top 4 Bible Journaling Supplies

Last summer, I started Bible journaling and dabbling in paper crafting and fell down the rabbit hole that is scrapbooking and stamping supplies, so today I’m sharing my top 4 Bible journaling supplies! Starting or ending the day with a little quiet, crafting time does wonders for me, and I bet you’d enjoy it too! So let’s dive in and start checking “designated crafting/quiet time” off our goals list for the year.

Top 4 Bible Journaling Supplies - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

If you’re new to Bible journaling or looking for some crafting inspiration, check out Illustrated Faith or #IllustratedFaith on Instagram! They share a lot of fun printables (both paid and free) along with inspiration, monthly kits, and more!

Top 4 Bible Journaling Supplies

Favorite Bible Journaling and Devotional Books - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

1) Bible and Devotional Books

100 Days of Bible Promises

This is the first devotional book I purchased in 2019. It’s written by Shanna Noel at Illustrated Faith. Each ‘devotion’ is two pages long. The first page has a short passage with 2-3 verses and the second page includes one more verse, a short payer, and then a wide-open space for journaling. I like to journal a few of the keywords or phrases from the passages on the first page.

100 Days of Less Hustle, More Jesus

This is the devotional book I’m currently working through. As we’re in the thick of COVID-19 and social distancing, I’m finding that a lot of the messages in this book are super applicable right now, which is fantastic!

100 Days of Grace & Gratitude

I don’t own this book yet, but it’s next on my list once I finish Less Hustle, More Jesus. I’ll probably finish my current workbook in late summer/early fall, and I think Grace & Gratitude will be fantastic to work through in the fall and throughout the Christmas season.

Journal the Word Bible – KJV

This is the journaling Bible I like to work in for various non-workbook based devotions. I went with the more traditional King James Version because that’s what I grew up with and like the most! There’s a section on each page that’s blank — perfect for doodling and note-taking. One day, I’d like to get the DaySpring Illustrating Bible — this Bible has even more room for journaling!

2) Journaling Mat

Illustrated Faith also makes a journaling mat, which is a hard sheet of plastic perfect for slipping between book pages to prevent ink from bleeding. I find this tool to be especially important when journaling directly in a Bible because those pages are much thinner and more likely to bleed, tear, etc.

Favorite Lettering and Journaling Pens - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

3) Pens

Illustrated Faith – Precision Bible Pen

I LOVE these pens. They come in two sizes, .25 and .65, and write incredibly smoothly. Along with black, they also sell a multi-color pack of the .65 size. I have both and use them every time I’m journaling.

Zebra – Mildliner Highlighters and Brush Pens

Mildliner highlighters are fantastic for highlighting your favorite passages. They come in tons of colors and are light enough that you can perfectly read whatever is underneath.

Mildliners are available in a combo pack with the Zebra Super Fine Funwari Brush Pens as well. I picked these up several months back and love the color options and the flexibility of the nibs.

A few other favorites:

Favorite Stamps and Ink - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

4) Ink and Stamps

Distress Ink

I love using ink to add a little color to my devotional or Bible pages. Depending on how much ink you use, you can achieve some really light or really dark patches of color. This ink blending tool is perfect for applying ink and keeps your hands pretty clean too! I’ve found that Distress Inks are much better for blending than they are for rubber or cling stamps.

Versa Magic – Dew Drops

I also love using chalk inks like Versa Magic to add a little color to my spreads. The formula is different than the Distress Inks above. These Dew Drops are great to use with the blending tool but also work really well with cling and rubber stamps.

Illustrated Faith – Date Stamp

I like to date all of my entries, and this is the stamp I use! It revolves, so you can change the date to whatever you want between January 2016 – December 2025. There’s even a blank ’20__ ‘year option, so you can use it long after 2025 if you’d like.

Paper Crafting Die Cuts - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

*Bonus

If you have a Tuesday Morning nearby, I suggest checking there for discounted die-cuts, alphabet stickers, washi tape, and more! They even have items from Illustrated Faith itself, which I really like! They have tons of American Crafts collections from Amy Tangerine, Maggie Holmes, and more. I’ve found that Tuesday Morning is way more stocked than my local JoAnn or Michaels when it comes to fun paper crafting lines!

FabFitFun Spring 2020 Review

FabFitFun Spring 2020 Review - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

Spring is here and so is this season’s FabFitFun box! Follow along below as Parker (my pup) helps me review the FabFitFun Spring 2020 box!

FabFitFun Spring 2020 Review - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

FabFitFun Spring 2020 Review

Parker’s first impression, “This sweater really is one size fits all!”

My first impression, “What a colorful box of goodies!”

It’s been almost two years since I received my last FFF box, so I’m pumped to dive into this one!

Ribbed Cardigan from FFF Spring 2020

Donni – Ribbed Sweater Coat – Retail Value $99

After seeing quite a few ads for this seasons’ box, I decided to subscribe because there were a few items that really caught my eye! One of those items is this cardigan. I LOVE cardigans and wear them all the time, so of course, I had to have this one.

This sweater is marked as one size fits all, which I don’t think is entirely true. While the sweater does technically fit, it doesn’t fit well enough to wear out on the town. It’s quite baggy on me, so I’ll only be wearing it inside my apartment. With that being said, I’ve been living in this cardigan since I received it, especially as I’ve been working from home for the last two weeks.

Calpak Packing Cubes from FFF Spring 2020

Calpak – Packing Cubes in Tutti Fruity – Retail Value $40

These packing cubes are another reason I decided to subscribe this season. I just couldn’t resist the adorable citrus pattern! It’s just too cute!

I have a trip planned for this May, and you better believe I’ll be packing these cuties in my suitcase! This set comes with three cubes sizes, which I think will help a lot with my suitcase organization but will probably not help with my tendency to overpack!

Reusable Straws from FFF Spring 2020

Chic & Tonic – Silicone Straws – Retail Value $15

The third and final item that convinced me to get this season’s box. How cheery and cute are these silicone straws?! If I were to describe these in one word, it would be “happy!”

This set comes with four straws, a brush for cleaning, and a carrying case. I’ve been using these straws nonstop over the last few weeks and don’t see that changing anytime soon — mainly because of how cute they look in my sparkling water!

Weight Sleep Mask from FFF Spring 2020

Gravity – Weighted Sleep Mask – Retail Value $39.99

After subscribing, I saw that this weighted sleep mask was one of my customization options and couldn’t resist selecting it. I have trouble sleeping sometimes, so I love trying new things that may help!

Weighted blankets are all the rage these days, so before taking the plunge and purchasing one, I figured I’d get my feet wet with the sleep mask first.

I sleep on my stomach or on my side most of the time, which is not ideal when it comes to using this mask. The mask will work much better for back sleepers. For me, I’ll have to take it with me the next time I go on a trip. It may work well as I lean my head back and try to sleep on an airplane.

Four Beauty Products from FFF Spring 2020

Here come the beauty products!

AG Hair – Fast Food Leave-On Conditioner – Retail Value $24

I use leave-in conditioner every night after I shower, so I was very pleased to see this product in my box. I’ve been using it every single night for the last few weeks and have been liking it quite a bit.

I probably won’t repurchase because my usual leave-in is a little cheaper, but I will definitely finish this entire tube.

Pürlisse – Watermelon Energizing 2 Minute Polishing Peel – Retail Value $35

This is another item that just screams “happiness” to me! The watermelon packaging is bright and cheerful and actually makes me think of summertime. It smells like watermelon candy too, which is another fun touch!

Unfortunately, the peel does not agree with my skin. I used it twice, and both times, I had a lot of breakouts to deal with. That’s not fun, but what will be fun is gifting this to one of my (less skin sensitive) friends!

This Works – Deep Sleep Body Cocoon – Retail Value $40

Like I mentioned above, I absolutely love trying “sleepytime” items. I use quite a few of the Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy sleep items already, so this cream is right up my alley!

I’ve been using it on my arms and legs a few nights a week and have been loving how calming the scent is. It’s the perfect blend of lavender and vetivert. The consistency is great too!

Jabonería Marianella – Imperial Jade Body Oil – Retail Value $68

Last but not least, we have a body oil! I’m going to be honest with you and tell you that I have not tried this product yet. Parker (my pup) has a thing for licking my legs when I apply lotions and such, and I haven’t worked up the energy to fend him off as I apply this one.

Now, you may be wondering why I’m able to apply the body cocoon above and not the oil. Well, the body cocoon I apply while I’m in bed and under the covers (a place where his tongue can’t reach). The oil I would need to apply in the bathroom, and I just know that he would be ALL over me! That’s being said. I will do my best to try this product soon!

FabFitFun Spring 2020 Review - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

All in all, I would say the FabFitFun Spring 2020 box was pretty great! I paid around $40 for this box, which has a total retail value of $361. That’s not too shabby at all!

Do you subscribe to FabFitFun? If so, what do you think of your Spring 2020 box?

If you’re not already a subscriber and want next season’s box, I can get you $10 off! What a deal!

Easy DIY: Pumpkin Home Decor

Easy DIY Pumpkin Home Decor - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

Fall is the best, but you know what makes it even better? All the pumpkin home decor it brings with it (and the cooler temperatures!)

I find crafting inspiration everywhere, but the inspiration for this particular project came while I was trolling the dollar spot at Target!

Easy DIY Pumpkin Home Decor - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

Supplies:

DIY Pumpkin Home Decor

This project is super easy! It took me less than an hour to complete and most of that was drying time. The actual steps probably took less than five minutes.

  1. Remove any ropes or strings
  2. Stain
  3. And Stain
  4. And Stain some more
  5. Apply polyurethane (if you want)
  6. Let everything dry completely
  7. Add embellishments
Easy DIY Pumpkin Home Decor - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

If your pumpkin comes with a string in it, then the first step is to remove the string. We don’t want to it to get in the way while we stain!

Easy DIY Pumpkin Home Decor - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

I’m super fancy, so I decided to use a Target bag to protect my table from any stain drips.

Next step? Start staining!

Easy DIY Pumpkin Home Decor - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes
Easy DIY Pumpkin Home Decor - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

Apply your stain with a paper towel (or cloth) one layer at a time. I gave my stain 10-15 minutes between each coat and did a total of three coats. If you want a darker pumpkin, apply more coats!

Easy DIY Pumpkin Home Decor - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

Don’t forget the edges!

I chose not to seal my pumpkin with polyurethane, because I didn’t want to add any additional shine to my pumpkin. If you do want to seal yours though, I would add that now – just follow the instructions on the can.

Easy DIY Pumpkin Home Decor - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

Once your stain and polyurethane are dry, it’s time to add some embellishments! I chose to keep things simple and just add a satin bow. A hand-lettered phrase or some felt flowers would look adorable too though!

Take a look at this IGTV video, which details all the steps of tying a bow. Because my pumpkin had a hole in its stem, I got a little creative with how I tied my bow.

Easy DIY Pumpkin Home Decor - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

Once embellishments have been added, it’s time to display you new pumpkin home decor! I have mine propped up on some shelves in my living room and absolutely love the look!

I’m hoping to find a nice wooden Christmas tree or ornament to do a similar project with! We will see what the dollar spot holds over the next few weeks/months!

POPSUGAR Must Have Summer 2019 Review

A new season is here, so you know what that means — it’s time for my POPSUGAR Must Have summer 2019 review! As usual, POPSUGAR did not disappoint with a box full of summery goodness! From sunscreen and beach hats to beauty products and candy, let’s dive in!

POPSUGAR Must Have Summer 2019

Box contents:

  • Seafolly – Bronte Sunglasses in Blush
  • Tofino – The Mathea Towel
  • Julep – Creme-to-Powder Eyeshadow Stick in Champagne Shimmer
  • Brooklyn Hat Co. – Palm Fiber Safari Hat
  • Tarte – Rainforest of the Sea Mermaid Skin Hyaluronic H2O Serum
  • Hint – Sunscreen and Sunstick
  • Candy Club – Lemonade Straws
  • Nair – Leg Mask

Seafolly – Bronte Sunglasses in Blush – Retail Value $99

Summer isn’t complete without a fun, new pair of sunnies! Subscribers were given the option of blush or blue for these sunglasses. I went with blush and am very happy with my choice!

This style is quirky and so different from the classic aviators I usually wear. However, I love them! I wore them on the 4th of July this year and received a ton of compliments. I’ll definitely be taking these cuties on my annual summer beach trip coming up next month.

POPSUGAR Must Have Summer 2019 Review - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

Tofino – The Mathea Towel – Retail Value $64.99

This is another item that POPSUGAR let subscribers choose the pattern of this month. I chose polka dots (my favorite) over the tribal print option.

The tassels on this beach towel are what sets it apart! How cute is that detail?! I’ll definitely be packing this towel for my annual beach trip as well!

POPSUGAR Must Have Summer 2019 Review - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

Julep – Creme-to-Powder Eyeshadow Stick in Champagne Shimmer – Retail Value $18

If you’re a longtime reader, then you know that Julep was my first foray into subscription boxes. I subscribed for years and loved each product I received, including their eye shadow sticks. I received this eye shadow stick and a few others several years back and loved them then just like I do now.

Champagne shimmer shadows are my everyday go-to, so I’ve been getting tons of use out of this eye shadow stick over the last few weeks and will continue to do so until it’s all gone!

POPSUGAR Must Have Summer 2019 Review - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

Brooklyn Hat Co. – Palm Fiber Safari Hat – Retail Value $55

I’m not usually a hat wearer but this hat has tempted me! I’ll be packing it for my annual beach vacation as well, so we’ll have to see how it like it after taking it for a spin on and around the beach!

If all else fails, it makes for very cute wall decor! Don’t you think?

POPSUGAR Must Have Summer 2019 Review - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

Tarte – Rainforest of the Sea Mermaid Skin Hyaluronic H2O Serum – Retail Value $42

Another thing you’ll know if you’ve been reading for a while is that I love Tarte products! I use quite a few in my everyday beauty routine and have tried tons more over the years after receiving them in various subscription boxes.

I’ve been using this serum several times a week for the last few weeks and have not noticed a difference in my skin. My skin has not been breaking out (which is fantastic!), so I will continue to use the serum for a bit longer to see if I notice a difference.

POPSUGAR Must Have Summer 2019 Review - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

Hint – Sunscreen and Sunstick – Retail Value $17.99 and $9.99

A summer subscription box isn’t complete without sunscreen! I’m not complaining though. This fair-skinned girl appreciates any and all sunscreen that she can get her hands on!

Hint’s pineapple scented sunscreen did not disappoint! It smells INCREDIBLE and works well too! Along with pineapple, their line also has a grapefruit scent, which intrigues me quite a bit. I hate eating grapefruit, but I love them smell!

Along with a lot of the other products above, I’ll be taking this sunscreen on my upcoming beach trip as well!

POPSUGAR Must Have Summer 2019 Review - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

Candy Club – Lemonade Straws – Retail Value $8.50

Lemonade candy? YUM! I love sour straws, so I was extremely excited when I found these in my box. I finished the container a little bit before writing this post, which is a little sad, so I may just have to look into a candy subscription with Candy Club. How fun would that be?!

POPSUGAR Must Have Summer 2019 Review - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

Nair – Leg Mask – Special Extra

It’s been years since I’ve used Nair instead of shaving my legs. I gave this product a try on my calves the other night and was pleasantly surprised by the outcome. After ten minutes, my calves were mostly hair free.

This leg mask works well, but I used almost the whole bottle just on my calves. I’m not sure how much larger the full-size version is, but I imagine I wouldn’t be able to get more than two or three full uses out of it.

For convenience sake, I think I’ll stick to shaving. After all, it only takes a few minutes to shave my legs as opposed to 10 minutes waiting for Nair to work.

POPSUGAR Must Have Summer 2019

This season’s box had a total retail value of over $315, which is over 3x what I paid for it! What a deal!

My favorite items are the sunglasses, beach towel, and the candy!

I can’t wait to see what next season’s box holds!

Summer Bucket List

There are still three weeks until summer officially begins, but I’ve already checked quite a few things off this list! I’ve been fruit picking, have read 4/5 new books, and have taken a plane trip (which can take the place of the road trip!)

Maybe you’re leaving the country, heading to a theme park, or attending a sporting event — be sure to add those things to the bottom of your list so you get the satisfaction of checking them off once completed!

DIY Hand-Lettered Doormat

I knew from the get-go that I wanted my doormat to say “hello” on it. Tons of other short words would be cute too like “hey” or “hi” or “love” or anything else really!

There are only a few steps to this project:

  1. Decide on your word
  2. Trace it out (if you’d like)
  3. Paint your word
  4. Go over your word with one more coat of paint
  5. Let dry

After I decided on my word, I eyeballed my mat, and then started free-handing. Originally, I was going to trace out my word but then decided that it would be easier to just go for it.

If you would like to trace it out before you start, then I’d suggest using a Sharpie to do that. Write lightly and make sure that you cover your line completely with paint.

When painting your mat, keep in mind that your word doesn’t have to be made up of one fluid stroke. Mine is made up of hundreds (I don’t even think I’m exaggerating here) of tiny, short stokes back and forth.

Almost done!

After you’ve painted the basic lines and shape for your word, load your brush with paint, turn it sideways (like in the photo above) and continue to paint over your lines to darken them up a bit.

It’s much easier to create a dark line with your brush turned sideways. The doormat is very rough, so by loading your brush with paint and turning it sideways, you’re able to get lots of paint down in the cracks and crevices.

After darkening each letter on my mat, I stood up on a chair to create some distance from my mat. I found it so much easier to gauge the color density from far away than to gauge it from up close.

Once you’re happy with the look of your hand-lettered doormat, you’re all done! My paint recommended that you let it cure for 48-72 hours. To be safe (and because I’m a little lazy), I let mine dry for over a week. It would be pretty awful to put your doormat out early and then end up tracking wet paint through your house.

It’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to drying times!

I hope y’all enjoyed this super easy hand-lettered doormat tutorial! You know how much I love crafting, so I hope to be back again soon with another fun project!
