It’s time for my monthly Ipsy review! My pretty, pink envelope! The theme for February is “#ipsyLove.”
The pattern of the February makeup bag isn’t my favorite, but I love the shape! It’s much better than some of the other bags I’ve received. Bag contents:
CARGO Cosmetics – Mini Lip Gloss
ModelCo – BLUSH Cheek Powder
“Pencil Me In” Cosmetics – Natural Eye Liner Pencil
Hey Honey – Take It Off! Exfoliating Honey Peel Off Mask
Eva NYC – Up All Night Volumizing Spray
CARGO Cosmetics – Mini Lip Gloss – Anguilla
I like the formula of this lip gloss but not the color. The pink is too light and reminds me of a frosted lip! (Yikes!)
The gloss has a very light, fruity scent that I kind of enjoy! ModelCo – BLUSH Cheek Powder – Peach Bellini
I really like the peach color of this blush. The powder is pretty soft and has nice pigmentation.
The only problem with the pigmentation is it’s too pigmented for me. I have very fair skin and one swipe of powder on my blush brush was too much for me! “Pencil Me In” Cosmetics – Natural Eye Liner Pencil – Amethyst
Do a lot of people wear purple eye liner? I don’t think so but Ipsy does. Maybe they know something I don’t!
I don’t wear eyeliner very often and when I do, I don’t wear purple. I don’t see myself ever using this product. One positive to this product is the attached sharpener! That’s super handy! Hey Honey – Take It Off! Exfoliating Honey Peel Off Mask
I’m not very adventurous when it comes to skincare, and face masks kind of scare me! Because of that, I won’t be trying this product.
That being said, this mask has a very light and fresh scent! Eva NYC – Up All Night Volumizing Spray
I’m very low maintenance when it comes to my hair, so I don’t use many hair products. Leave-in conditioner is as exciting as it gets for me!
I love the product label design! So pretty and sophisticated looking!
I also really like the scent of this spray. It’s fresh and light just like the mask above! The February bag was mostly a miss for me! 🙁
It’s time for my POPSUGAR Must Have review! Subscription box days are my favorite days of the month!! Such a pretty pamphlet! Each box comes with a card full of detailed information on each product. Box contents:
Tarte Cosmetics – Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush – True Love
U.S. Apothecary – Rose Water Bubble Bath
ACME Party Box Company – Bamboo Heart Cutting Board & Cheese Knife
BaubleBar – Mini Arrow Pendant Necklace – Silver
Figs & Rouge – 100% Natural Balm – Lemon Berry
Chuao Chocolatier – Ravishing Rocky Road Bar
Sally Beauty – FingerPaints Nail Color – Brushstroke Blush
Tarte Cosmetics – Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush – True Love – Retail Value $26
I was SO excited when I saw that I would be receiving a Tarte blush is my February box!
Tarte is a fantastic brand, and this blush is great!
True Love is a very pretty reddish pink! I have to be careful with it though! I’m used to a little bit lighter blushes, so I have to make sure I don’t apply too much! I don’t want to walk out of the house looking like a clown! U.S. Apothecary – Rose Water Bubble Bath – Retail Value $30
This bubble bath is so luxurious and fancy! It smells pretty good too!
I don’t take bubble baths very often, so I’ll be saving this for a special occasion! ACME Party Box Company – Bamboo Heart Cutting Board & Cheese Knife – Retail Value $32
This is the cutest cutting board and cheese knife I’ve ever seen!
I don’t have much use for this right now, so I think I’ll save it and gift it to a friend in the future! BaubleBar – Mini Arrow Pendant Necklace – Silver – Retail Value $32
I’ve never bought anything from BaubleBar before, but I’ve heard great things about the company!
This necklace is perfectly dainty!
I read a few spoilers before I got my box, and saw that the necklace was being given out in several different metals. At the time, I couldn’t decide which one I wanted. I’m happy to say that the silver was a perfect choice for me!
I haven’t worn it yet. I’m waiting to pair it with the perfect outfit! I was really excited to see that the necklace came with a coupon code!
I can’t wait to go online and see what else BaubleBar has to offer! Figs & Rouge – 100% Natural Balm – Lemon Berry – Retail Value $8
This is another item that varied from box to box. Based on the reviews I’ve read, there are at least 2 different flavors.
I love lip balm, but I not a huge fan of the types that you have to stick your fingers in.
The balm says it’s tinted, but I didn’t notice any color when it was applied to my lips.
A few positives for the lip balm are that the smell is nice and light and the packing is super adorable! I’m a sucker for good packaging! Chuao Chocolatier – Ravishing Rocky Road Bar – Retail Value $6
This chocolate bar is very yummy! I’m eating it as I’m writing this post!
The marshmallows and salted caramel almonds are a great touch! SPECIAL EXTRA – Sally Beauty – FingerPaints Nail Color – Brushstroke Blush – Retail Value $5.50
This nail polish was added to every February box as a special bonus! Very exciting!!
The polish I received is a pretty baby pink color! Very fitting for the spring! It also came with a BOGO coupon! Who doesn’t love BOGO?! I am very pleased with my February POPSUGAR Must Have box!
I payed ~$27 for this box and received $139.50 worth of product!
Valentine’s Day is coming up, and I have a cute embroidery project for you! Supplies:
Doodle Stitching The Motif Collection by Aimee Ray (Get it here!)
Fabric (I used light pink gingham)
The Motif Collection book is FANTASTIC, because it comes with a CD of all the embroidery designs. It makes it so easy to download the images and print them in any size for your projects! We’re going to start our project by printing out the cupcake and tracing it onto our fabric.
I chose to place my cupcake at a bit of an angle! It adds a little whimsy!! Now, we’re going to dive right in to the stitching!
This entire project is made with the Back Stitch. This project is super quick and easy to do if you’re in a hurry! I love the heart on our cupcake! It makes the cake so much cuter! The blue icing looks kind of like a fluffy cloud! Feel free to add some French Knot sprinkles or another fun accent! I was going to add sprinkles to my cupcake, but I forgot! I can always go back and add them though! Now comes the words!
I went through a phase where I downloaded a TON of fonts off the internet!
The font I used here is one of them. This font is called “always forever.” You can find it here, or you can use your own font!
I chose to place my words at an angle to add some (more) whimsy! Stitch the words!
It’s easier if you use small stitches. You have more control, and it ends up looking neater and nicer. Once the words are complete, you’re all done!! Isn’t it so fun?!
I have another embroidery project to show you! Supplies:
Doodle Stitching: Embroidery & Beyond by Aimee Ray
Fabric (I used muslin)
DMC Floss Colors:
838 – Dark brown
840 – Brown
842 – Light Brown (optional)
Here’s a picture of the design I’m working off of. We’re going to start by hooping our fabric. The majority of this project is made by using the Back Stitch.
With brown thread, stitch a rounded triangle to create part of Chester’s head. Use the dark brown thread to create the ears.
I decided to stitch them at the same time instead of stitching the head in between.
My ears turned out two different shapes. Whoopsie!! Oh well, it gives Chester some character! Now we have to stitch the head.
I had no problems with left side of the head. The right side is where I ran into trouble! I think I stitched and restitched the right side of Chester’s head at least three times!
I had a lot of trouble getting the cheek rounded the right way. I kept ending up with harsh turns and sharp angles. Now, it’s time for the body and the feet! Just like with the ears, I had some trouble with the feet!
There is definitely a learning curve to hand embroidery! Little Chester is coming right along! Now it’s time to add his arms! You can make the arms the same length or different lengths like I did.
The book shows the arms as different lengths, and I figured it would be easier to make them blatantly different than try to make them exactly the same! It’s time to make Chester’s sweet face!
I used double wrapped French Knots for his eyes. I prefer double wrapped knots to single, because I like my knots to be a little bigger. Especially in the case of Chester’s eyes. Chester has such a sweet grin! (At least I think so!)
With brown thread, use the Satin Stitch to make his tiny nose and the Back Stitch to make his mouth. Tail Time! Continuing with the brown thread, Back Stitch the upper part of Chester’s tail. Use the dark brown thread to finish off the tail.
I love the swirly part of the tail! It adds (more) great character to our chubby chipmunk! The acorn is the last part of our project.
Use the brown thread to create the nut part of the acorn and the dark brown thread to create the upper “hat” portion. Once you’ve finished stitching the domed “hat” portion of the acorn, add one Straight Stitch crossing over the upper half to make the stem. Chester the chubby chipmunk is complete!!
I think he turned our might cute if I do say so myself!! 😀
Feel free to add more acorns or the wording like the example from the book!
