Ipsy Review – February 2015

Hi guys!

It’s time for my monthly Ipsy review! IMG_8413My pretty, pink envelope! IMG_8419The theme for February is “#ipsyLove.”

The pattern of the February makeup bag isn’t my favorite, but I love the shape!  It’s much better than some of the other bags I’ve received. IMG_8423Bag contents:

  • CARGO Cosmetics – Mini Lip Gloss
  • ModelCo – BLUSH Cheek Powder
  • “Pencil Me In” Cosmetics – Natural Eye Liner Pencil
  • Hey Honey – Take It Off! Exfoliating Honey Peel Off Mask
  • Eva NYC – Up All Night Volumizing Spray

IMG_8443CARGO Cosmetics – Mini Lip Gloss – Anguilla

I like the formula of this lip gloss but not the color. The pink is too light and reminds me of a frosted lip! (Yikes!)

The gloss has a very light, fruity scent that I kind of enjoy! IMG_8434ModelCo – BLUSH Cheek Powder – Peach Bellini

I really like the peach color of this blush. The powder is pretty soft and has nice pigmentation.

The only problem with the pigmentation is it’s too pigmented for me.  I have very fair skin and one swipe of powder on my blush brush was too much for me! IMG_8438“Pencil Me In” Cosmetics – Natural Eye Liner Pencil – Amethyst

Do a lot of people wear purple eye liner?  I don’t think so but Ipsy does.  Maybe they know something I don’t!

I don’t wear eyeliner very often and when I do, I don’t wear purple.  I don’t see myself ever using this product. IMG_8442One positive to this product is the attached sharpener! That’s super handy! IMG_8452Hey Honey – Take It Off! Exfoliating Honey Peel Off Mask

I’m not very adventurous when it comes to skincare, and face masks kind of scare me!  Because of that, I won’t be trying this product.

That being said, this mask has a very light and fresh scent! IMG_8425Eva NYC – Up All Night Volumizing Spray

I’m very low maintenance when it comes to my hair, so I don’t use many hair products.  Leave-in conditioner is as exciting as it gets for me!

I love the product label design!  So pretty and sophisticated looking!

I also really like the scent of this spray.  It’s fresh and light just like the mask above! IMG_8450The February bag was mostly a miss for me! 🙁

Did you receive a February Glam Bag?!

What did you think?! Bow signature pink

POPSUGAR Must Have Review – February 2015

Hi everyone!

It’s time for my POPSUGAR Must Have review! IMG_8074Subscription box days are my favorite days of the month!! IMG_8076Such a pretty pamphlet! IMG_8114Each box comes with a card full of detailed information on each product. IMG_8115Box contents:

  • Tarte Cosmetics – Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush – True Love
  • U.S. Apothecary – Rose Water Bubble Bath

  • BaubleBar – Mini Arrow Pendant Necklace – Silver

  • Chuao Chocolatier – Ravishing Rocky Road Bar
  • Sally Beauty – FingerPaints Nail Color – Brushstroke Blush

IMG_8094Tarte Cosmetics – Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush – True Love – Retail Value $26

I was SO excited when I saw that I would be receiving a Tarte blush is my February box!

Tarte is a fantastic brand, and this blush is great!

True Love is a very pretty reddish pink! I have to be careful with it though!  I’m used to a little bit lighter blushes, so I have to make sure I don’t apply too much!  I don’t want to walk out of the house looking like a clown! IMG_8134U.S. Apothecary – Rose Water Bubble Bath – Retail Value $30

This bubble bath is so luxurious and fancy! It smells pretty good too!

I don’t take bubble baths very often, so I’ll be saving this for a special occasion! IMG_8130ACME Party Box Company – Bamboo Heart Cutting Board & Cheese Knife – Retail Value $32

This is the cutest cutting board and cheese knife I’ve ever seen!

I don’t have much use for this right now, so I think I’ll save it and gift it to a friend in the future! IMG_8100BaubleBar – Mini Arrow Pendant Necklace – Silver – Retail Value $32

I’ve never bought anything from BaubleBar before, but I’ve heard great things about the company!

This necklace is perfectly dainty!

I read a few spoilers before I got my box, and saw that the necklace was being given out in several different metals.  At the time, I couldn’t decide which one I wanted.  I’m happy to say that the silver was a perfect choice for me!

I haven’t worn it yet.  I’m waiting to pair it with the perfect outfit! IMG_8137I was really excited to see that the necklace came with a coupon code!

I can’t wait to go online and see what else BaubleBar has to offer! IMG_8126Figs & Rouge – 100% Natural Balm – Lemon Berry – Retail Value $8

This is another item that varied from box to box.  Based on the reviews I’ve read, there are at least 2 different flavors.

I love lip balm, but I not a huge fan of the types that you have to stick your fingers in.

The balm says it’s tinted, but I didn’t notice any color when it was applied to my lips.

A few positives for the lip balm are that the smell is nice and light and the packing is super adorable!  I’m a sucker for good packaging! IMG_8117Chuao Chocolatier – Ravishing Rocky Road Bar – Retail Value $6

This chocolate bar is very yummy!  I’m eating it as I’m writing this post!

The marshmallows and salted caramel almonds are a great touch! IMG_8121SPECIAL EXTRA – Sally Beauty – FingerPaints Nail Color – Brushstroke Blush – Retail Value $5.50

This nail polish was added to every February box as a special bonus!  Very exciting!!

The polish I received is a pretty baby pink color!  Very fitting for the spring! It also came with a BOGO coupon!  Who doesn’t love BOGO?! IMG_8081I am very pleased with my February POPSUGAR Must Have box!

I payed ~$27 for this box and received $139.50 worth of product!

That is so awesome!

What did you think of your February box?! Bow signature pink

DIY Hand Embroidery Motif – Sweet Cupcake

Hi guys!

Valentine’s Day is coming up, and I have a cute embroidery project for you! IMG_8058Supplies:

  • Doodle Stitching The Motif Collection by Aimee Ray (Get it here!)
  • Embroidery hoop
  • Embroidery floss
  • Fabric (I used light pink gingham)
  • Needle
  • Pencil
Design courtesy of Doodle Stitching

The Motif Collection book is FANTASTIC, because it comes with a CD of all the embroidery designs.  It makes it so easy to download the images and print them in any size for your projects! IMG_8013We’re going to start our project by printing out the cupcake and tracing it onto our fabric.

I chose to place my cupcake at a bit of an angle!  It adds a little whimsy!! IMG_8015Now, we’re going to dive right in to the stitching!

This entire project is made with the Back Stitch. IMG_8018This project is super quick and easy to do if you’re in a hurry! IMG_8019I love the heart on our cupcake! It makes the cake so much cuter! IMG_8021The blue icing looks kind of like a fluffy cloud! IMG_8023Feel free to add some French Knot sprinkles or another fun accent! IMG_8025I was going to add sprinkles to my cupcake, but I forgot! I can always go back and add them though! IMG_8026Now comes the words!

I went through a phase where I downloaded a TON of fonts off the internet!

The font I used here is one of them.  This font is called “always forever.”  You can find it here, or you can use your own font!

I chose to place my words at an angle to add some (more) whimsy! IMG_8030Stitch the words!

It’s easier if you use small stitches.  You have more control, and it ends up looking neater and nicer. IMG_8050Once the words are complete, you’re all done!! IMG_8055Isn’t it so fun?!

I love it!

DIY Hand Embroidery Motif – Penelope the Peacock

Hi everyone!

It’s time for another embroidery tutorial!

This time we’ll be making a cute, little peacock named Penelope!! IMG_8043Supplies:

  • Doodle Stitching Embroidery & Beyond by Aimee Ray (Get it here!)
  • Embroidery hoop
  • Needle
  • Embroidery floss
  • Fabric (I used muslin)

IMG_8045DMC Floss Colors:

  • 964
  • 958
  • 991
  • 3840
  • 3839
  • 3838
  • 791
Design courtesy of Doodle Stitching

Doodle Stitching has two different patterns for the peacock.

Design courtesy of Doodle Stitching

I took inspiration from both designs and created something all my own!

You can follow the original designs, or you can get creative and try something new!

IMG_7673We’ll start by using the Back Stitch to create Penelope’s body.

IMG_7678I chose to make her body dark blue like the book did.

IMG_7680Continue using the Back Stitch to make the little arch that forms her eye.

IMG_7683Now, we start stitching the feathers!

IMG_7690I used dark teal floss for the first three feathers.

IMG_7694I chose to make my first few feathers as close to the book as possible.

IMG_7697Continuing with the Back Stitch, add another, larger feather in any color you’d like!

IMG_7700Once the larger feather is completed, we can start adding a few accents!

IMG_7703Start by adding a light mint circle.

IMG_7707Then, add a few Lazy Daisy stitches.

Begin stitching another larger feather.

IMG_7709This feather ended up more square than I would’ve liked, but I decided to roll with it.

IMG_7712Now, we’re going to add some medium mint stripes.

IMG_7717Finish off the stripes and add another feather down below.

IMG_7718Add feathers all over until you are satisfied with Penelope’s plumage!

IMG_7721Try to mix up your thread colors and keep Penelope balanced.

IMG_7726Add some fun feather details!

IMG_7728Double wrap your needle for these French Knots!

IMG_7733More feathers!

I’m not sure why I stitched two of the same colored feathers right next to each other, but I did!  It all ends up working out in the end though!

IMG_7740Another feather!

IMG_7743There’s a learning curve to stitching the feather shapes.  If you’re having trouble, don’t worry!  It gets easier as you go along!

IMG_7745I decided to add a swirly thing!

IMG_7749Now, we add a circle to it!

IMG_7751And another circle!

IMG_7756My swirly thing somehow evolved into a leaf/feather combo!

IMG_7758Finish the leaf/feather and add another circle (down below) as an accent.

IMG_7760Now, we try and succeed in stitching a swirly!

IMG_7764Add a ball for fun!

IMG_7765I couldn’t decide what kind of accent to add to the big feather, so I went with an oval shape.

The easiest way to make an oval is to stitch two parallel lines, and then, create the rounded edge by connecting the lines.

IMG_7767More double wrapped French Knots!

IMG_7771Add a diamond-like shape and another French Knot to the bottom feather.

IMG_7774Stitch a smaller version of the top left feather inside of itself.

Then, stitch around the inside of the feather next to it with a different floss color.

IMG_7773Here’s a close-up!  Sorry it’s a little blurry!

IMG_7780Add a third color to that feather!

You can keep going until you fill the feather completely if you’d like!  It could be really cute!

IMG_7785Now, it’s time for the head foffies!

I used two Back Stitches to create them.  If you want the foffies shorter or longer, you can adjust the number of stitches or the stitch length.

IMG_7788Accent the foffies with double wrapped French Knots.

IMG_7797I wasn’t quite satisfied with Penelope’s left side, so I decided to add one last feather.

IMG_7799Finish it off with a few more French Knots.  Single wrapped this time!

IMG_7856Penelope the Peacock is complete!

Isn’t she pretty?!

I absolutely love her!

What do you think?  Are you a fan of peacocks?!

Happy Crafting!!

IMG_7963The theme for February is “The Afterglow Collection.”

IMG_7951Glow Highlighting Powder – Champagne

I’ve never used a highlighting powder before.  I tried this one out this morning and it seems very nice!

The champagne color is beautiful and perfect for my skin tone!

IMG_7943Fan Brush

I’ve been trying not to add on for the last few months, but I couldn’t resist this month!  I decided to add on the fan brush that goes with the highlighting powder.

IMG_7945This brush is fantastic!

It’s the perfect weight, and the bristles are very soft and fluffy!

IMG_7948You can see how thick and luscious the fan part is.

I received a Julep eyeshadow brush a few months ago, and really love it.  I knew I couldn’t pass up the opportunity for another fantastic Julep brush!

IMG_7938Lip Gloss – Lively – Sheer Hot Pink

I like this lip gloss A LOT more than the one I received last month.

Thankfully, this lip gloss is not as bright as it appears in the bottle.  When applied, it’s the perfect shade of natural pink!

I think I’ll be getting quite a bit of use out of this product!

IMG_7933London – Classic with a Twist – Heather Blossom Crème

This polish is so pretty!  I painted it on my fingernails last night, and I really like it!

It’s perfect for the spring time, and it kind of reminds me of Easter!

Hartleigh – Classic with a Twist – Holographic Heart Glitter Top Coat

This polish is very festive for February!  The hearts are perfect for Valentine’s Day!

IMG_7970Hartleigh was included in every Maven’s box as a special Valentine’s Day treat!

IMG_7973So sweet! 🙂

IMG_7965Last but not least, we have this month’s coupon and quote!

As usual, the coupon is good for two uses and expires on March 31, 2015!

What did you receive in your February Maven box?!  Did you add on the Fan Brush too?!

DIY Hand Embroidery Motif – Chester the Chipmunk

Hi everyone!

I have another embroidery project to show you! IMG_7576Supplies:

  • Doodle Stitching: Embroidery & Beyond by Aimee Ray
  • Embroidery hoop
  • Embroidery floss
  • Needle
  • Fabric (I used muslin)

IMG_7579DMC Floss Colors:

  • 838 – Dark brown
  • 840 – Brown
  • 842 – Light Brown (optional)
Design courtesy of Doodle Stitching
Design courtesy of Doodle Stitching

Here’s a picture of the design I’m working off of. IMG_7569_2We’re going to start by hooping our fabric. IMG_7585_2The majority of this project is made by using the Back Stitch.

With brown thread, stitch a rounded triangle to create part of Chester’s head. IMG_7588_2Use the dark brown thread to create the ears.

I decided to stitch them at the same time instead of stitching the head in between.

My ears turned out two different shapes.  Whoopsie!!  Oh well, it gives Chester some character! IMG_7593Now we have to stitch the head.

I had no problems with left side of the head.  The right side is where I ran into trouble! IMG_7594I think I stitched and restitched the right side of Chester’s head at least three times!

I had a lot of trouble getting the cheek rounded the right way.  I kept ending up with harsh turns and sharp angles. IMG_7597_2Now, it’s time for the body and the feet! Just like with the ears, I had some trouble with the feet!

There is definitely a learning curve to hand embroidery! IMG_7602_2Little Chester is coming right along! IMG_7606Now it’s time to add his arms! IMG_7609You can make the arms the same length or different lengths like I did.

The book shows the arms as different lengths, and I figured it would be easier to make them blatantly different than try to make them exactly the same! IMG_7613_2It’s time to make Chester’s sweet face!

I used double wrapped French Knots for his eyes. I prefer double wrapped knots to single, because I like my knots to be a little bigger.  Especially in the case of Chester’s eyes. IMG_7618Chester has such a sweet grin! (At least I think so!)

With brown thread, use the Satin Stitch to make his tiny nose and the Back Stitch to make his mouth. IMG_7620_2Tail Time! Continuing with the brown thread, Back Stitch the upper part of Chester’s tail. IMG_7622Use the dark brown thread to finish off the tail.

I love the swirly part of the tail!  It adds (more) great character to our chubby chipmunk! IMG_7626The acorn is the last part of our project.

Use the brown thread to create the nut part of the acorn and the dark brown thread to create the upper “hat” portion. IMG_7632Once you’ve finished stitching the domed “hat” portion of the acorn, add one Straight Stitch crossing over the upper half to make the stem. IMG_7854 Chester the chubby chipmunk is complete!!

I think he turned our might cute if I do say so myself!! 😀

Feel free to add more acorns or the wording like the example from the book!

Happy Crafting!!
