  • Embroidery floss
  • Scissors
  • Needle
  • Sharpie
  • Pencil
  • Fabric (I used muslin)

IMG_8957DMC Floss Colors:

  • 995 – dark blue

  • 3770 – very light peach

Not pictured:

  • 747 – light blue
  • 840 – light brown

This is the mermaid design we’ll be using for our project.

IMG_8962As usual, we will print out and trace our motif with a Sharpie.

I chose to leave out the blushing cheeks.  If you want to add them, feel free to do so!

IMG_8960Trace Maribel onto your fabric.  Then, hoop your fabric.

IMG_8965Use the Stem/Outline Stitch for her hair.

IMG_8968I’ve been talking out practicing the Stem Stitch for a while now.  I am finally getting around to it!

IMG_8971Use the Back Stitch for Maribel’s body.

You can use whatever color thread you’d like for your mermaid’s hair and skin.  I chose blonde hair and fair skin for Maribel, because that’s what the book shows and it’s what I have.

IMG_8974Continue using the Back Stitch but switch to the dark blue thread for the outline of her tail.

IMG_8978Continue with the Back Stitch but switch to the medium blue for her tail scales.

Use the coral thread and the Satin Stitch for Maribel’s mouth.

IMG_8986I spent at least 10 minutes deciding on Maribel’s eye color.  I wasn’t satisfied with any of my options!

I finally settled on the light brown.

Use the Back Stitch for this portion as well.

IMG_8991Finally, use the light blue thread and the Back Stitch for the bubbles.

IMG_9004Now our mermaid is complete!

Isn’t she pretty?!

Happy Crafting!!

POPSUGAR Must Have Review – March 2015

Hi everyone!

It’s time for my monthly POPSUGAR Must Have review! IMG_8912To receive fun boxes likes this each month, click here! IMG_8916The inspiration for the March box was renewal, citrus, spring break, fresh, and traveling. IMG_8917This card gives details on every item included in the box.

Box contents:

  • Bliss – Micromagic Microdermabrasion Treatment
  • Greenmarket Purveying Co. – The Archivist Lemon + Cucumber Reed Diffuser Kit
  • Samdura – Pink Piña Zip Pouch
  • Knock Knock – What to Pack Pad
  • Wet Brush – The Squirt
  • Halfpops – Halfpopped Popcorn

Special Extras:

  • Benefit Cosmetics – Roller Lash Mascara
  • Benefit Cosmetics – The POREfessional

IMG_8938Bliss – Micromagic Microdermabrasion Treatment – Retail Value $48

At first, I was a little skeptical of this product.  I looked at a lot of reviews online and the majority of them were very positive.  The negative reviews kind of worried me though.  I eventually sucked it up and gave the scrub a try.

I’m happy to report that it’s FANTASTIC! My face was so incredibly smooth when I got out of the shower after using it!

The directions say to only use it twice a week, so (as weird as this is) I’m pumped for when I get to use it again! IMG_8946Greenmarket Purveying Co. – The Archivist Lemon + Cucumber Reed Diffuser Kit – Retail Value $20

I’ve never use a reed diffuser before, but I’ve always thought they were pretty cool.  I decided to put this one in my bathroom.

I love the lemon and cucumber smell!  It’s very fresh and perfect for spring! IMG_8942Samdura – Pink Piña Zip Pouch – Retail Value $40

I like the size and color of this pouch!  It’s perfect for storing sunscreen and other larger items that have the potential to spill.

The POPSUGAR retail value is $40.  The pouch is nice but I would never pay that much for it.  It’s just plastic with a zipper not too impressive. IMG_8935 Knock Knock – What to Pack Pad – Retail Value $7

I love this notepad!  I always makes lists when I travel to make sure I don’t forget anything, so this is perfect for me!

I love the fact that there are blank spaces under each category. Those are perfect for adding my own items! IMG_8929Wet Brush – The Squirt – Retail Value $4.99

I was always told to never brush my hair when it’s wet, but because I received this brush in my box, I decided to give it a try.

Unfortunately, the brush didn’t work for me. I know that sounds odd, but it’s true.  The bristles wouldn’t latch on to my hair and brush though it. They just glided over top without actually brushing my hair.

My best friend, Kylie, has a Wet Brush and loves it.  I don’t know why it didn’t work for me though.  Weird! IMG_8934Halfpops – Halfpopped Popcorn – Retail Value $1.69

I’ve never had halfpopped popcorn before.

The flavor was good but the snack itself was odd. I don’t know how to describe it other than weird. I didn’t hate it, but I also didn’t love it.

This is one of those things that you just have to try for yourself! IMG_8926Special Extra – Benefit Cosmetics Samples

I love Benefit, so I couldn’t have been happier to receive these in my box!

Roller Lash Mascara

I first tried the new Roller Lash Mascara in my March Sample Society box, and I love it!

It works really well and doesn’t clump!

I definitely do not mind the repeat!

The POREfessional

POREfessional is a fantastic face primer that reduces the look of pores and smooths the skin.

I use it everyday and love it!

I’m always happy to have a travel size for whenever I go on trips! IMG_8920The March POPSUGAR Must Have box has a total retail value of $121.68!  That’s fantastic!

Out of the three months I’ve had POPSUGAR, this has been my least favorite month.  Oh well!

As with all subscription boxes, you’re going to like some months better than others!

What do you think of the March POPSUGAR box?! Bow signature pink

Ipsy Review – March 2015

Hi everyone!

It’s time for my monthly Ipsy review! IMG_8845If you’d like to receive a pretty, pink envelope each month, click here! IMG_8848When I saw the sneak peek of the March makeup bag online, I wasn’t too impressed.  I’m happy to say that the bag is much cuter in person! IMG_8850“Floral Fantasy” is the theme for March. IMG_8856Bag Contents:

  • NYX Cosmetics – Butter Lipstick
  • Chella – Ivory Lace Highlighter
  • Pixi by Petra – Mesmerizing Mineral Duo
  • Skyn ICELAND – Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels
  • ACURE – Day Cream

Bonus Item:

  • Smashbox – Photo Finish Foundation Primer

IMG_8858NYX Cosmetics – Butter Lipstick – Pops

When I first opened my bag, I was a little disappointed by the lipstick color I received.  This lipstick looks very dull and old lady like.  I was pleased to find out that it is much prettier when applied! IMG_8861 It’s a nice neutral, rose color.

The formula is also great! It’s very smooth and creamy! IMG_8879Chella – Ivory Lace Highlighter

I don’t really use highlighters, so I don’t have much use for this product.

I will say that it goes on very smooth and seems easy enough to blend.

IMG_8871Pixi by Petra – Mesmerizing Mineral Duo – Apricot Glow

I can’t tell you how excited I was to see this eye shadow in my bag!  I always get eyeshadow from Ipsy, but I always end up with the weird purple colors!  Gross!!

This month’s shadow palette was very promising!

IMG_8875I really love the lighter, apricot shadow on the left, but I’m not a huge fan of the bronze shadow on the right.  Unfortunately, the bronze is too orange for my skin tone.

I still think I’ll get plenty of use out of the apricot shadow though!

IMG_8870Skyn ICELAND – Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels – 2 pairs

I’ve received quite a few eye gels in my subscription boxes lately, so I decided to go ahead and give these a try.

I put them on and let them sit for 10 minutes.  Unfortunately, I didn’t notice any results after removing them.  I know I have a little bit of bagginess under my eyes, so I’m not quite sure why I didn’t notice any difference.

I’m really glad that Ipsy provided me with two pairs!  Hopefully, my second application will prove more fruitful than my first!

IMG_8865ACURE – Day Cream

This cream has the best light, fruity scent!  I love it!

The directions say to apply the cream each morning.  I can’t think of anything better than surrounding yourself with this yummy scent to start your day!

IMG_8864BONUS ITEM – Smashbox – Photo Finish Foundation Primer – Pore Minimizing

I finally earned enough IpsyPoints to get a reward!  I’ve been holding out for a good one, and I was super excited to snag one from Smashbox!

I love Benefit’s The POREfessional, and this primer is just like it.  Since I already have a full-sized POREfessional, I’ll be packing this sample the next time I go on a trip.

IMG_8882Just when I was starting to give up on Ipsy, they curated a pretty good bag!

What do you think of the March Ipsy bag?!

DIY Hand Embroidery Motif – Spring Strawberries

Hi everyone!

I have another quick and easy embroidery project for you!

IMG_8719Supplies:

  • Doddle Stitching: The Motif Collection by Aimee Ray (Get it here!)
  • Embroidery hoop (4 inch)
  • Embroidery floss
  • Needle
  • Fabric (I used gingham)
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Sharpie

IMG_8722DMC Floss Colors:

  • 321 – red
  • 700 – green
  • 727 – light yellow
  • 3840 – light blue
IMG_8635
Design courtesy of Doodle Stitching

This is the strawberry motif we will be using.

IMG_8697Print out the motif and trace over it with your Sharpie.

Then, trace the motif on to your fabric.

IMG_8723We’re going to start by stitching all of the red parts.

This entire project is created by using the Back Stitch.

IMG_8725If you’d like, you can use Lazy Daisies instead of the Back/Straight Stitch for the seeds.

I tried Lazy Daisies first, but they were too big and made the berry look cluttered.

IMG_8728If you don’t like the seed placement in the original design, you can always move them around or add a few more!

IMG_8730Use your light yellow thread to stitch the center of the flower.

If you’re comfortable with the Satin Stitch, you could use that instead of the Back Stitch.

IMG_8731Use the light blue thread for the flowers.

The design shows the petals as a little squared off.  I liked the look, so I tried to emulate it as much as possible!  One petal turned out rounded, but oh well!  I’m all about adding character to my pieces! 😉

IMG_8734Now, on to the green!

Since the majority of the green areas are straight lines, I made my stitches a little bit longer than usual.

IMG_8737I tried my best to define the points on the leaf.  Some of the points did end up muddled though.

The easiest way to define the points is to only use one stitch for each side of the point.  Does that make sense?

IMG_8738I think I did the best on the middle leaf!

IMG_8751If you are comfortable with the Stem Stitch, you can use that instead of the Back Stitch.

IMG_8753Once you’ve stitched the vine, your berries are complete!

IMG_8757I think this is possibly the berry cutest project I’ve ever made! 🙂

Happy Crafting!

Allure Sample Society Review – March 2015I

Hi everyone!

I haven’t been that pleased with Ipsy lately, so I decided to try a different beauty subscription.

After quite a bit of research, I settled on Allure Sample Society!

I got my first box a few days ago, and I can’t wait to review it for you! IMG_8801This might be a little weird but I was really surprised by the quality of this box.  It’s very sturdy and will be great to reuse when wrapping presents and the like! 🙂 IMG_8812The first thing I saw when I opened my box was this mini magazine.

The magazine features a letter from the Allure Beauty Director and a page about each product included in the box, IMG_8817Here are two of the pages from the mini magazine. IMG_8805Box contents:

  • Benefit – Roller Lash Mascara
  • Juice Beauty – Green Apple Age Defy Moisturizer
  • Oscar Blandi – Pronto Texture & Volume Spray
  • (MALIN + GOETZ) – Mojito Lip Balm
  • Cargo – Essential Lip Gloss

IMG_8819Benefit – Roller Lash Mascara

I was really excited when I saw that I’d be receiving the Benefit mascara!  I love Benefit and am always willing to try out a new mascara! IMG_8834Here’s a little card from Benefit telling all about the new wand they created for their Roller Lash Mascara.

I’m not used to the plastic bristle type of mascara wand like the Roller Lash features.  I usually go for the “regular” bristle wand. (That doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but I think you know what I’m talking about!)

I’ve been using this mascara for a few days now, and I really like it! IMG_8824Juice Beauty – Green Apple Age Defy Moisturizer

I’ve never used a scented moisturizer before.  This one has a light and fun apple scent!

I’ve heard great things about this moisturizer, so I can’t wait to give it a try! IMG_8826Oscar Blandi – Pronto Texture & Volume Spray

While reading about this product in the mini magazine, I discovered that it doubles as a dry shampoo-like product.  That’s really cool!

It also smells really good! IMG_8821(MALIN + GOETZ) – Mojito Lip Balm

I received this same lip balm in my January Ipsy bag.

I’m not used to the gel formula of this balm, but I still like it.  It has a great subtle scent!

Since I already have one, I think I’m going to give this balm to a friend! IMG_8832Cargo – Essential Lip Gloss – Tahiti

When I first opened the box and saw this lip gloss, I was really disappointed.  At first glance, this gloss looks really orange.  I’m not an orange lip gloss fan, so I was not pleased.

After applying, I really started to fall in love with it though! Tahiti is the perfect natural color for my lips!

When there’s a lot of gloss in one place, it looks really orange.  When it’s spread out though, it’s quite pretty!

I’m really pleased with my first Allure Sample Society box!

I can’t wait to see what April has in store for me!

Do you get Allure Sample Society?  What do you think of the March box? Bow signature pink

DIY Hand Embroidery Motif – Floral Rain Boots

Hi everyone!

Here is the tutorial for the other project I made while stranded in the airport!

If you missed my first project, you can find it here!

IMG_8675Supplies:

  • Doodle Stitching: The Motif Collection by Aimee Ray (Get it here!)
  • Embroidery hoop (4 inch)
  • Embroidery floss
  • Needle
  • Sharpie
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Fabric (I used gingham)

IMG_8677DMC Floss Colors:

  • 602 – pink
  • 703 – green
  • 722 – orange
  • 798 – blue
IMG_8636
Design courtesy of Doodle Stitching

This is the design we’ll be using from the Doodle Stitching book.

IMG_8671I like to start by printing my design and then tracing over it with a Sharpie.  My tracing got a little wonky on the right boot! 🙂

The Sharpie makes it so much easier to see the design while tracing it onto your fabric.

IMG_8672Trace the image onto your fabric and then hoop your fabric.

IMG_8679We’re going to start by stitching the upper portion of the boots in pink.

The body of the boots are made with the Back Stitch and the little loops at the top are made with Lazy Daisies.

IMG_8681Use your orange thread to stitch the soles.

IMG_8684I had some issues with my second sole.  My pencil line wasn’t quite dark enough and the airport had weird lighting, so I ended up having to guess where the stitches were supposed to be!

IMG_8687If you’re comfortable with it, feel free to use the Stem Stitch for this part!

IMG_8689I know it’s hard to see, but I used the Satin Stitch for the center of the flower.

You can either use Lazy Daisies or the Back Stitch for the petals.  Whatever floats your boat!

IMG_8693I was on the airplane at this point, so my lighting got even weirder! Oh well!

I was able to finish my project without too many issues!

IMG_8713Our rain boots are complete, and we’re all ready for some spring showers!

Julep Maven Review & Coupon – March 2015

Hi everyone!

It’s time for my monthly Julep Maven review! IMG_8769If you’d like to receive pretty, purple boxes each month like I do, click here! IMG_8774Box Contents:

  • Light On Your Lips Lipstick – Stepping Out
  • Get In Line Invisible Lip Liner
  • Jahnavi – Classic with a Twist – Iced Chai Chrome
  • LuLu – Classic with a Twist – Wisteria Mist Soft Focus (semi-matte)
  • Smarties
  • Coupon

IMG_8775March features “The POP! Collection”

There were a lot of pretty, pastel polishes this month! IMG_8785Light On Your Lips Lipstick – Stepping Out – Carnation Pink

I love the formula of this lipstick!  It’s very smooth and creamy! IMG_8795I love the pink color of the lipstick I chose, but it’s a little too pink for everyday wear!

I might wear it when I’m feeling bold, but that doesn’t happen too often!

I like the formula so much though that I’m thinking of buying this lipstick in another color! IMG_8788Get In Line Invisible Lip Liner

I have a really hard time getting lipstick to stay on my lips, so I decided to add this product to by box this month!

I prefer my lip liners to be clear, so this one is perfect for me!

I’ve used it once so far, and I really like it!

IMG_8778Jahnavi – Classic with a Twist – Iced Chai Chrome

This light metallic polish is beautiful!  The gold is very subtle, so I think it’ll be a nice neutral!

I used it last night, and I love the effect!  It’s way more metallic than I expected!

LuLu – Wisteria Mist Soft Focus (semi-matte)

I’m excited to try out the Soft Focus finish that this polish features.  I believe the Soft Focus finish is a brand new addition to Julep’s product line!

There were three different Soft Focus polishes featured this month.  One is pale mint, the other is pale peach, and the third is the pale purple that I received.  I think I would’ve gotten more use out of one of the other colors.  I’m a little worried that this purple will be too light for my skin tone.

I haven’t tried it yet though, so when I do, I’ll report back! IMG_8789Lastly, we have our coupon and quote!

Like usual, the coupon is good for two uses and expires March 31, 2015.

I think I’m actually going to use my coupon this month and buy a different shade of the Light On You Lips Lipstick.

Did you receive the March Maven box?

What do you think of your products?! Bow signature pink

DIY Hand Embroidery Motif – Floral Umbrella

Hi everyone!

I just got back to school from my spring break vacation.  While away, I made a few really cute projects!

This little project and another one I’ll post later in the week, were made while my little, Jessica, and I were delayed in the airport for four hours! Four hours!!! IMG_8649Supplies:

  • Doodle Stitching: The Motif Collection by Aimee Ray (Get a copy here!)
  • Embroidery hoop (4 inch)
  • Embroidery floss
  • Needle
  • Pencil
  • Sharpie
  • Fabric (I used blue gingham)
  • Scissors

IMG_8650DMC Floss Colors:

  • 151 – light pink
  • 603 – medium pink
  • 703 – green
  • 727 – yellow
IMG_8637
Design courtesy of Doodle Stitching

This is the umbrella pattern we will be following!

It’s so cute and perfect for spring! IMG_8640I like to start by printing out the design and tracing over it with a Sharpie.

The Sharpie makes the lines so much easier to see while you’re tracing! IMG_8644Trace your image onto the fabric. IMG_8646Hoop your fabric.

It’s okay if the image is a little off center.  You can always go back and fix that later! IMG_8652We’re going to start with the light pink thread and Back Stitch the handle and top of the umbrella. IMG_8655Use the medium pink to stitch the dome of the umbrella. IMG_8658Stitch the curved handle as well.

I don’t know why the handle is so fat on one side.  That’s the way the design shows it though, so I just went with it! IMG_8661Continue stitching the upper portion of the umbrella.

If you don’t want to add the floral embellishment, you can stop here. The umbrella is adorable with or without the flower! IMG_8665Use the green thread to stitch the stem.

I used the Back Stitch instead of the Stem Stitch for this part because I still haven’t mastered the Stem Stitch.  Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t! 🙁 IMG_8667Use the Satin Stitch for the center of the flower.

The Satin Stitch is another stitch that I need a little bit more practice with! Maybe I’ll start making some projects exclusively with the Satin Stitch!  That should definitely help me learn it! IMG_8669Depending on how large your petals are, you can use either Lazy Daisies or the Back Stitch.

I went with the Back Stitch because my petals were a little larger. IMG_8716Once the flower is complete, our project is done!

That was so quick and easy!

I love the way this one turned out!

Happy Crafting!! Bow signature pink

DIY Hand Embroidery Motif – Happy Hedgehog

Hi everyone!

I have another embroidery project to share!

I made this little hedgehog for my best friend, Kylie, for Valentine’s Day!  I know that Valentine’s Day has passed, but I couldn’t post my tutorial until after I gave it to her!

IMG_8374

Supplies:

  • Doodle Stitching The Motif Collection by Aimee Ray (Get a copy here!)
  • Embroidery hoop (I chose a 4″ hoop)
  • Embroidery floss
  • Needle
  • Pencil
  • Fabric (I used muslin)

IMG_8377DMC Floss Colors:

  • 321 – red
  • 840 – light brown
  • 838 – dark brown

As you can see, I had an issue with 838!

Somehow, my thread turned into a delightful, brown knot!  So much fun! 😉

IMG_8144
Design courtesy of Doodle Stitching

We’ll be using this little guy from the Woodland Animals section of Doodle Stitching! IMG_8345Start by hooping your fabric and tracing on the hedgehog motif.

I tried my best to center him!  If it ends up really crooked, you can always go back and fix the fabric! IMG_8349Using the light brown thread and the Back Stitch, we’re going to stitch around the body. IMG_8352Continue stitching up and around his back. IMG_8353_2Use the dark brown thread and the Satin Stitch to create his eyes and nose. IMG_8359_2The spines are very easy to stitch.

Using the Straight Stitch, start at one end of the pencil line and stitch to the other.

Each spine should be made up of only one stitch. IMG_8360_2Continue adding spines.

After adding all the spines that we’re traced on the fabric, I filled in a few holes. IMG_8363_2Time to add some little hearts! IMG_8365Each heart is made of two Lazy Daisy stitches. IMG_8368Once all the hearts are added, our cute, little hedgehog is complete! IMG_8384Happy (super belated) Valentine’s Day!! Bow signature pink
