Planner Perfect: Get Organized This Semester

Hi everyone!

I’ve decided to share a bit of my recent planning hobby with you today!  For those of you that follow me on Instagram, some of this will be a repeat for you.  For those who don’t follow me on Instagram, you really should! (pinkbowstwinkletoes)

I discovered the Erin Condren LifePlanner earlier this summer.  After seeing it, I knew almost instantly that I needed one too!  So the planning adventure began!

IMG_2770When ordering my planner, I chose the custom colorway option and picked out this delightful cornflower blue and white! I love how crisp and clean the color combo is! It’s professional but still fun!

I knew when I ordered my planner that I was going to jump right on the planner sticker band wagon!  I actually received my first two sticker orders several days before my planner arrived!  As I mentioned in my last post, I tend to jump into new things with both feet! 🙂

IMG_3082This was my first planned out week.  I’d only received a few sticker sheets when I designed this spread, so it’s a little bare.  Looking past all the white space, I think it’s pretty cute for my first week!

I love using little pencil stickers to mark when my classes are.  I also have some special college flags that I use to mark when assignments are due.

I haven’t really used a planner since High School, so this is a fun way for me to get organized again!

IMG_3888Skip ahead a few weeks and we have this hot air balloon spread!  This is the first design that I was completely happy with!  I love the way the stickers complement the page colors.  So pretty!

I used quite a few of the college assignment flags on the latter portion of this week.

I decided at this point that I was going to add a corresponding quote in the left side bar each week.  I usually go on Pinterest on Sunday nights and see what kind of short and sweet quotes I can find!

IMG_4045I chose a bright red and yellow floral theme for this week. The mason jar stickers I had corresponded nicely with the reds of July and the yellows of August.  Super convenient!

I picked out a fun Lilly Pulitzer quote that I thought fit quite nicely with the color scheme!

IMG_4210I messed up the sidebar quote for the week of my brother’s wedding, so I had to get creative with my photo!  Whoopsie! 🙂

Vintage Gypsy Road (one of the sticker shops I love) sells a fun cake decorating sticker set that allows you to build any size cake you’d like!  I thought that was perfect for Robert and Hayley’s wedding day!

IMG_4365A Florida summer isn’t complete without a little watermelon!

IMG_4446I got the majority of the stickers I used for this spread from Libbie & Co (another one of my favorite sticker shops).

She sold a mystery box in early August that came with tons of adorable flamingo stickers!  You know how much I love mystery/subscription boxes, so I couldn’t resist!  I’m hoping she offers another one soon!

IMG_4611This floral theme is my most recent spread.

Sorority recruitment ended this week and Kappa’s bid day theme was Picnic, so I was trying to portray that a little in my spread.  It didn’t turn out overly picnic-y but that’s okay!  The red gingham box is all the picnic I really need!

Now that I’ve shown you all of my designs, I’m going to explain a little about the supplies I use and how I go about designing the spread for each week!

IMG_4637I buy/use a ton of stickers, so I bought this accordion folder at Target to store all of my stickers.  I also bought the corresponding file folders.

I like to store my stickers alphabetically by shop. When the pockets of the accordion folder filled up, I started sticking the file folders in the accordion pockets to created more divided spaces.

IMG_4640Here’s a picture of the inside of my accordion folder.  You can kind of see where I stuck a filer folder to create more space.

IMG_4647On the bottom of each planner page, I like to add some coordinating washi tape.  The washi adds a lot of color and covers up some of my unused white space!  Win win!

I’ve bought washi at all of the craft stores and Target!  Target sometimes has it in their Dollar Spot, which is a fantastic deal if you find some you like!

Michael’s is the best place to buy the basics.  They sell thin, solid washi in large packs that you can oftentimes use a coupon on!  What a deal!

IMG_4646These are some of my favorite sticker sheets!

IMG_4649Every Sunday night, I sit down with my planner and start designing my layout for the week.  I typically have a few Post-Its with important events on them.

IMG_4651I then go through my stickers and pick out the ones I think I’m going to use.

IMG_4655Planning is definitely a process.  I don’t fill out the entire week on Sunday.  I just fill out what I know I for sure have going on.  I like to leave a little blank space in case something pops up!

IMG_4659I then added my quote and made a few more sticker additions.

IMG_4662This is what I ended up with!  I’m not in love with my washi tape design, so I’ll probably end up changing that before the week is through!  I’m pretty satisfied with the rest of it though!

If I still have some blank spaces at the end of the week, I’ll go ahead and add in more decorative stickers!

Planning can be quite time consuming, but I find it very rewarding!  It’s such a fun way for me to stay organized and make sure I don’t miss any important events or assignments!

Check out my Instagram on Wednesday and Sunday for more pictures of this spread!

Are you a planner addict too?!

What are some of your favorite sticker shops?!

Brush Lettering: Practice Makes Perfect

Hi everyone!

I’ve been so busy these last few weeks that I haven’t had any time to blog! 🙁

Thankfully, my schedule is becoming way less hectic, so I will have a lot more time to blog now!

If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you’ve seen my brush lettering hobby evolve. Today, I’ve decided to share my little, brush lettering journey from beginning to now!

IMG_1799It all started when I discovered some calligraphers on Instagram!  My favorites are amandaarneill and piecescalligraphy.

I started watching their short brush lettering videos over and over again!  My friends laughed at me for my little obsession but whatever!  Their videos are fascinating to watch!

I decided I was going to be a fantastic calligrapher and went on Amazon and bought some Tombow Dual Brush Pens!  The markers took so long to come in, I thought I was going to die! 🙂

IMG_4593Once I got my markers, I was shocked with how difficult lettering was.  The videos I watched made it look so easy!

Following my disappointment, I went online and looked up some lettering tips.  A lot of people said to practice writing the same letter over and over again, so that’s what I did!

I also messaged Amanda (amandaarneill) and asked for her advice.  She recommended Modern Calligraphy by Molly Suber Thorpe.  I found the book to be pretty helpful!

IMG_1831This is one of the first lettering photos I posted.  I thought it was pretty cute, but I knew I could do better!

IMG_1861This is another one of my early lettering posts.  I really struggled with making my upstrokes thinner than my downstrokes.

IMG_1911It was quite disheartening when I realized that I would have to really work at my lettering.  I have a lot of confidence in my crafting abilities and just assumed that I would immediately be fantastic at lettering.  I got a bit of a wake-up call!

IMG_2611Fortunately, things do get easier and I did get better with practice!

IMG_3277Think happy, Be happy and you will make progress! 🙂

IMG_4036This is my most recent lettering post, and you can really see my stroke variation! YAY!!! I can’t tell you how happy that makes me!

IMG_4595I’ve taken to writing myself little reminders with my brush pens, so I can get a little extra practice during my everyday!

IMG_2442Like most crafts, I jumped into this one with both feet!

Within several weeks I had bought over 40 markers!

I don’t suggest everyone dive in and spend tons of money on a project you’re not sure you can actually do, but it seems to have worked out for me! 🙂

IMG_4590Here’s another recent one I’m gong to post on Instagram later today!

This little project really is proof that practice makes perfect!

Have you struggled with any crafts recently?!

Are you a fan of hand lettering?!

I apologize for the weird lighting in all of these photos!  I don’t know what was going on when I took these pictures!

IMG_4347American Colors – Mediterranean Plaid Scarf – Retail Value $79

I can’t tell you how much I love this scarf!  The double-sided patterns make it so fun!

I can’t wait to wear it in the fall!  I have two quilted, puffer vests (one navy and one pink) that will look fantastic with it! 🙂

IMG_4328Royal Apothic – Tea Balm Firming Eye Treatment – Retail Value $36

I always enjoy getting eye creams in subscription boxes.  At this rate, I won’t have to buy another eye cream until 2016! How awesome is that?!

I’ve used this cream for a few days now, and haven’t noticed anything that sets it apart from other eye creams I’ve tried.  That’s okay though!  All eye creams seem roughly equivalent to me.

Product packaging is really important to me, and this product delivers!  The little box and the purple container are so cute!  I love it!

IMG_4332Meri Meri – Toot Sweet Pink Stripe Napkins – Retail Value $5.95

I don’t have a use for these napkins right now, but I’m sure I’ll use them at some point!  They’re too cute to let go to waste!  I’m going to save them for a special occasion!

IMG_4335Southern Culture – Shortstacks Pancake & Waffle Mix – Retail Value $7.99

This pancake mix is soooooo cute! I can’t get over the adorableness!!

These are birthday cake flavored!  I’m sure they’ll be super delicious!  I don’t want to open them yet though.

I don’t want to waste them on just myself.  I’ll have to invite some friends over and have a pancake and waffle party!

IMG_4319Happy Jackson – Yay Lunch! Lunch Box – Retail Value $10

When I saw this in my box, I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I do!  It’s super cute and super handy!  I love it!!

IMG_4323It’s so easy to put your sandwich and a few snacks in this box and then throw it in your bag.

It’s great for when you don’t want to bring your entire lunchbox with you!

I’ve been using it for the last few days and have gotten quite a few compliments! 🙂

IMG_4341Pastel – Best Day Ever Mug – Retail Value $12

I’ve recently started drinking coffee, so this mug is perfect!

It’s simple and cute!  No complaints from me!

IMG_4350MyYogaWorks – 3-Month Trial – Retail Value $45

This card is good for a 3-month trial on myyogaworks.com.  The website features over 700 online classes.

This is really great for people who enjoy online workout classes.  I probably won’t end up using this though.  I’m rather forgetful and am not that big on exercise. 🙁

IMG_4330Folgers Iced Café – Caramel Macchiato Flavored Coffee Drink Concentrate – Retail Value $4.99

This product really makes iced coffee easy!  All you do is add a few squirts to a glass of milk, and you’re done!

I think it tastes pretty good, but I would prefer regular iced coffee.  I will definitely be using this when I don’t have time to brew coffee though!

IMG_4295The August box has a total retail value (not including the yoga trial) of $155.93!  That’s awesome!

I’ve already gotten quite a bit of use out of some of these products, and I know I’ll get even more use out of the rest of them in the future!

Allure Beauty Box Review – August 2015

Hi everyone!

It’s time for my monthly Allure Beauty Box review!

IMG_4212I would usually include my referral link right now except Allure no longer has a referral program.  So annoying!

IMG_4214Each box comes with a mini magazine with information and tips on the featured products.

IMG_4217Box contents:

  • Bumble and Bumble – Grooming Creme
  • Butter London – Nail Lacquers
  • Benefit – They’re Real Push-Up Liner
  • Malin + Goetz – Peppermint Shampoo
  • Eau Thermale Avène – Clearance Gel Cleanser
  • Nuance Salma Hayek – AM/PM Anti-Aging Super Cream

IMG_4231Bumble and Bumble – Grooming Creme

This is the second Bumble and Bumble product I’ve received in an Allure Beauty Box. I liked the first product, and I like the second!

I’ve used it after showering several days this week. It smells great and is working well!

IMG_4234Butter London – Nail Lacquers – The Sweet Spot

I love this polish!  It’s so pretty and natural looking!

I have it on my fingernails right now, and I’m going to keep wearing it for the next few weeks.

For my sorority’s recruitment, we’re required to have light pink/neutral nails.  This polish is perfect for that!

IMG_4227Benefit – They’re Real Push-Up Liner

I was pretty excited to see this sample in my box!  I’ve been curious about this liner for a while now.

I’ve heard bad reviews on the sample size.  The packaging doesn’t provide enough product for a decent sample.  I figured that out really quickly.  On my first try, I squeezed out the majority of the product.  That was rather unfortunate.

I also wasn’t a fan of how tiny the tube is.  I had a hard time holding it.  I’m a dork though, so I doubt many other people had this problem too!

I have no complaints on the product just the packaging!  I’d be really interested in trying out the full size!

IMG_4235Malin + Goetz – Peppermint Shampoo

I’m a weirdo and was a little hesitant to mix this shampoo with my go-to conditioner.  I did give it a try though!

I didn’t notice a difference between this shampoo and my regular one.  I was worried that the new shampoo would make my hair greasy or do weird things!  I’m so glad it didn’t!!

This shampoo smells awesome!  A pepperminty explosion!

IMG_4244Eau Thermale Avène – Clearance Gel Cleanser

This cleanser is for oily and acne-prone skin types.  I don’t really suffer from either of those afflictions, so I’ll be asking some of my friends if they’d like to give this product a try!

IMG_4242Nuance Salma Hayek – AM/PM Anti-Aging Super Cream

I have a few dry patches on my face right now, so I’m going to give this cream a try tonight and see how it goes!

IMG_4245(I didn’t realize until way after the fact that I forgot one of the products when I took this picture! Whoopsie!!)

Overall, I’m pretty pleased with this month!  I would’ve preferred a full size liner, but that’s asking for a lot! 🙂

Julep Maven Review & Coupon – August 2015

Hi everyone!

It’s time for my monthly Julep Maven review!

IMG_9548

To receive fun boxes like I do each month, click here!

IMG_4138Box Contents:

  • Skip the Brush – Peony Pink
  • Feels Like Velvet – Champagne & Caviar
  • Ann – Classic with a Twist
  • Penny – Classic with a Twist
  • Blush Brush
  • Metallic Tattoos
  • Coupon

IMG_4151Skip the Brush – Peony Pink

I’ve had trouble with blush sticks before (think of a clown), so I was a little leery when I saw this stick was the featured beauty product for August.

IMG_4156I haven’t had much time for experimentation in the last few days, but I have tried the blush once.

It had the opposite pigmentation effect than the last one I tried.  I couldn’t seem to get enough color on my cheeks.  I think part of the problem was that I wasn’t sure exactly how hard to press the blush into my face.

I think with a little practice I will learn to love this product!

What little color I did manage to get was very pretty.  The peony shade is a natural pink that’s perfect for me!

IMG_4147Feels Like Velvet – Champagne & Caviar – Add On

I really liked the eye shadows that I got in my May Maven box, so I picked up another this month.

IMG_4148This photo makes the shadows look a lot more orangey than they are in real life.  I experimented with different lighting and the pictures all came out the same. 🙁

In reality, the left shadow is a dusty pink and the right is a chocolate brown.  They’re very pretty and natural.  Right up my alley!

IMG_4141Ann – Classic with a Twist – Passion Punch Ghost Shimmer Crème
I love this polish color!  It’s bright and fun!

I haven’t been able to use it yet, but I can’t wait to give it a try!  It’s going to be very pretty!

Penny – Classic with a Twist – Burnished Bronze Metallic

I’ve gotten quite a few metallic polishes since subscribing to Julep last year.  They’ve all been so pretty!

I think this one might be a touch too bronze for me though.  I don’t think it’s going to look good with my skin tone, but I’ll give it a try anyway!

IMG_4144Blush Brush – Add On

I’ve been wanting this brush for several months now.  I have quite a few other Julep makeup brushes, and they are fantastic!

I would choose the month they debut a brushless blush to buy a blush brush!  Delightfully ironic!

IMG_4160Julep debuted their Brave Pretty campaign this month.

I think it’s a great campaign, but I didn’t do my part! Whoopsie!

I was supposed to fill out that little white card and share it on social media.  Maybe I’ll do it later in the month!

IMG_4164Julep sent out a little freebie this month!  Metallic temporary tattoos. Fun fun!

Julep also included their monthly coupon!

I really like my box this month!  I think the products are great, and I can’t wait to use them some more!

Watercolor Wednesday – Pineapple Practice!

Hi everyone!

I have some watercolor trial and error paintings to share with you on this Watercolor Wednesday!

IMG_4078I bought a few new watercolor brushes at Michael’s over the weekend, and I couldn’t wait to try them out!

There are a few things I would really like to change about these paintings, but since I’ve only been practicing for a little over a week, I don’t think these are too bad!

IMG_4085I got the idea to paint a pineapple off of Pinterest!

If it weren’t for the one rouge triangle (I’m sure you can guess which one I’m talking about), I would absolutely love this!

I got a little wild and used two different greens for the leaves!  I used a darker blue green and a lighter yellow green.  I think the effect is quite nice! 🙂

The pineapple was pretty easy, so I’ll definitely be trying it again soon!

IMG_4088I love the way these flowers turned out! I’m pretty happy with the “bloom” too!

My paint set didn’t come with a purple, so I mixed a few colors to make my own.

Next time, I’ll use a smaller brush for the stems.  They’re just a little too thick for my liking!  I’ll also make the stems a little longer (or move the bow up a little), so there’s greenery coming out of the bottom of the bow.

IMG_4075

All in all, I’m pretty pleased with this week’s paintings!

I’ll be back next week with some more progress!

Happy Crafting!!

DIY Confetti – Easy and Fun!

Hi everyone!

I have a fun and SUPER easy craft for you today!

I’ve been wanting something to add a little pizazz to my Instagram photos recently, so I decided to invest in some confetti.  I knew I wouldn’t be able to buy exactly what I wanted, so I decided to make my own!  Making my own definitely didn’t save me money, but that’s okay!  I got exactly what I wanted!

IMG_4007Supplies:

  • Paper punches
  • Cardstock
  • Scissors

IMG_4016Simply use the punches to cut out lots and lots and lots of your desired confetti shapes!

I found it the easiest to start with a whole sheet of cardstock, punch out a complete row, and then cut that strip away.  In the end, you’ll end up with a bunch of punched out strips like the ones above!  You could also cut the strips and then punch.  Whatever floats your boat!

IMG_4051I went to town and punched out lots of different shapes!

I bought my punches during JoAnn’s most recent scrap booking sale, so they we’re out of a few punches that I wanted. 🙁

I still managed to get my hands on a few fun ones!  As you can see, I got a medium heart, a dove, and a small circle.  I also got a small heart.  I just haven’t made any confetti with it yet.

IMG_4036Look how cute! Doesn’t it just jazz up the picture?! 🙂

Happy Crafting!
