Easy DIY: Floral Picture Frame

Floral Picture Frame - Pink Bows & Twinkle Toes

I’ve had a handful of wooden craft frames gathering dust in my craft box since my early college days. Recently, I got the bright idea to dust of the plain wooden frames and transform one into a simple but gorgeous floral picture frame.

If you follow me on Instagram, then you’ve been getting sneak peeks of this project over the last few weeks! Today, I’m going to give you the full rundown on how to whip up a few of these adorable frames as gifts for your neighbors, children’s teachers, colleagues, friends, and more!

How To:

  1. Stain your wooden picture frame. I used one coat of Early American and love the result. Two coats would contrast with the white paint pen really well too if you’re going for a richer wood look. I used a paper towel to apply wood stain, but you could also use a soft cloth or a paintbrush (which could give a cool effect!)
  2. Once your stain is dry and has had sufficient time to soak in, it’s time to add your design. True to form, I chose my favorite flower from Botanical Line Drawing and started drawing them with my white paint pen.
  3. Once you’ve added your design with your paint pen and the paint has dried, your frame is ready to gift to a friend or enjoy in your own home!

Take a look at the below video as I walk through all the steps of this project.

If you eliminate the drying time, it probably only took me 15 minutes or so between the painting and drawing. Fifteen minutes for an adorable home decor piece or gift item? Sign me up!

And if flowers aren’t your thing, I think leaves, snowflakes, polka dots, swirls, or stripes would be cute too! Your design options are endless!
