DIY Hand Embroidery Motif – Hot Air Balloon

Hi everyone!

I have a pretty, little embroidery tutorial to share with you today! IMG_3343Supplies:

  • Embroidery hoop
  • Embroidery floss
  • Fabric (mine is from Joann’s)
  • Needle
  • Scissors
  • Pencil

IMG_3342DMC Floss Color:

  • 4180 – variegated pink

IMG_3347I found this cute hot air balloon motif on Pinterest.  You can find it here!

After printing off the motif, trace it, and hoop your fabric. IMG_3348Start by Back Stitching the balloon.

This project is super easy and is made with only the Back Stitch and a few Straight Stitches. IMG_3350 IMG_3356 IMG_3387 IMG_3391Keep Back Stitching until the balloon is complete. IMG_3394Split your thread into two strands of three.  You’ll be using strands of three for the remainder of this project.

Use one of the strands of three to stitch this zig zaggy portion of the motif. IMG_3398Continue using one of your strands of three to Straight Stitch the ropes that tether the balloon to its basket. IMG_3402Back Stitch the little basket. IMG_3405Add a few straight stitches across to complete the basket and our hot air balloon! IMG_3448I love the way the pink and yellow look together!

So cute!

I’m going to go back in a few days and add some embellishments to the balloon!  There will be a separate tutorial for that! IMG_3437Happy Crafting! Bow signature pink

DIY Hand Embroidery Quote – Aspire To Be

Hi everyone!

I have another embroidery phrase to share! IMG_1725Supplies:

  • Embroidery hoop
  • Embroidery floss
  • Fabric (mine is from Hobby Lobby)
  • Printed phrase
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Needle

IMG_1728 DMC Floss Colors:

  • 823 – navy
  • E3821 – metallic gold (optional)

We’re going to start by printing out a phrase.

I chose “Aspire To Be” because it’s short, cute, and something we say in my sorority (Kappa Kappa Gamma).

Because my quote is somewhat inspirational, I chose a script font that fit well with the phrase. IMG_1733Use your pencil to trace your phrase onto your fabric. IMG_1736We’re going to start by double Back Stitching the body of the “A” and single Back Stitching the little connector.

By “Double Back Stitching” I simply mean two rows of the Back Stitch right next to each other.

I double up my Back Stitch when I want to make my lines thicker. IMG_1740 IMG_1749 IMG_1751Continue to Back Stitch “aspire” until you reach the end.

Remember to only double stitch the main portion of each letter and single stitch the connectors.

Use a French Knot to dot the “I” IMG_1755 IMG_1760Use the single and double Back Stitch method for the last two words as well.

Once, “to be” is done, our project is complete!!

If you want to add a little more pizzazz, you can use the gold thread to Whip Stitch around the letters.  Just like we did in our “Eat cake” project.

IMG_1782I love how classic this project looks!

There’s nothing wrong with simplicity!

DIY Hand Embroidery Motif – Kate Spade Quote

Hi everyone!

I love Kate Spade and hand embroidery, so I decided to combine the two in this next project! IMG_1341Supplies:

  • Fabric (I got mine at Hobby Lobby)
  • Embroidery hoop
  • Embroidery floss
  • Pencil
  • Needle
  • Sharpie

IMG_1343DMC Floss Colors:

  • 823 – Navy Blue
  • E3821 – Metallic Gold

IMG_1332Type up and print out the quote.

I used a font called “Things People Do For Love!” You can download it too or use another font you like! IMG_1337Trace the quote onto your fabric. IMG_1350We’re going to start with the navy thread and Back Stitch the words. IMG_1355IMG_1358IMG_1363The quote looks so cute!

If you’re satisfied, you can stop now. If you’d like to add a little more pizzazz and tie in the gold dots, keep reading! IMG_1367Separate the gold thread into individual strands.

Take one of the strands and whip it around the navy Back Stitch. The gold thread only pierces the fabric at the beginning and end of each letter.  You just weave it over and under each stitch. Does that make sense? IMG_1373IMG_1378IMG_1385Sooooooo cute! I can’t tell you how much I love this (and cake!) 🙂

Happy Crafting!
