Ipsy Review – November 2014

Hi guys!

It’s time for my Ipsy review!

DSCN3493Gotta love that festive pink envelope!

DSCN3498I’m not a huge fan of the glittery bag this month.  It just looks cheap!

There are ways to do classy glitter, and this is not one of them!

The November theme is “Girl Meets Glitter.”  I think the theme is really cute, but I wish they would’ve executed it better!

Bag contents:

  • Marc Anthony – Oil of Morocco Argan Oil Volume Shine Hairspray
  • Tarte – Deluxe Maracuja Oil
  • Be A Bombshell Cosmetics – Eye Base
  • Wet n Wild – MegaSlicks Balm Stain
  • Elizabeth Mott – You’re So FINE Eyeliner

DSCN3535Marc Anthony – Oil of Morocco Argan Oil Volume Shine Hairspray

The only hairspray I own is for crafting, so I’m glad to get this one in my bag!

I probably won’t use it often, but that’s okay!

DSCN3526Tarte – Deluxe Maracuja Oil

I LOVE Tarte products! I’m a huge fan of their Amazonian Butter Lipsticks!

I wish the November bag featured a different Tarte product.  I’m not really sure what to do with this oil.

I will say that the packaging is beautiful! I’m a sucker for pretty packaging!!

DSCN3513Be A Bombshell Cosmetics – Eye Base – Submissive

The only other Be A Bombshell product I’ve received is the questionable mascara from over the summer.  Because of that, I was a little skeptical of this product, but it actually seems pretty nice!

The color is a nice, shimmery taupe.  I haven’t tried it on my eyes yet, so I’m interested to see how it looks under my eyeshadow!

DSCN3518Wet n Wild – MegaSlicks Balm Stain – Lady and the Vamp

I love lip products like this one, but I’m not a fan of the color.  It’s way darker than anything I’d ever wear.

My best friend loves darker lip colors, so I gave it to her!

DSCN3519Elizabeth Mott – You’re So FINE Eyeliner – Glitterati

The applicator on this eyeliner is great.  It creates a nice, fine line.

I was looking forward to this eyeliner until I realized that it has huge, silver glitter pieces in it.  WHAT?!

I don’t see myself ever wearing black and silver glitter eyeliner.

DSCN3539November was an okay month for Ipsy.

It was much better than October, but I’m hoping for even better in December!

What did you get in your November bag?!

Nail of the Day!

Hi everybody!!

I’ve gotten a ton of great colors in my recent Julep Maven boxes, so I decided to experiment with different polish techniques!

I tried this style last week.

ImageIt’s not a super exciting style, but it’s more than I usually do.

I don’t typically do an accent nail, but I’ve decided to go for it recently!

I created this look with Shenae and Tania.

ImageShenae – Pastel mint green opalescent shimmer

Tania – Multidimensional mermaid teal glitter

Shenae is from my Lucky Mystery Box, and Tania is from my March Maven box.

I was originally going for this look.

I glopped on too much glitter though, so I decided to make it an accent nail instead of taking all my polish off and starting over.

I really need to work on my glitter techniques.  I always seem to apply WAY too much!

Do you have glitter problems too?!  I can’t be alone in my glitter struggle!!

Nail of the Day!

Hi all!

So I tried that nail polish technique I talked about in my last post again and it turned out pretty good this time!! Yay!!

This is what I was trying to do!  Looks pretty easy right?! Let me tell you, it definitely was not!

To create the mermaid nail look, I used Tania and Soraphine from my March Julep Maven Box.

I applied three coats of Soraphine to each of my fingers before I applied Tania.  Next time, I think I’m going to try four coats and see if that makes the white any more opaque.

The hardest part of creating the mermaid look was applying the perfect amount of glitter polish to my fingernails.  Oftentimes, I ended up putting on WAYYY too much!

I recommend wiping almost all the glitter nail polish off of the brush before attempting to apply it.  You’ll know when you have the perfect amount of polish on your brush because it will look like there is nothing left on it!

Here’s a picture of my right hand!  I think it looks a lot better than my left hand, which is odd, because I’m right handed and it would make more sense for my left hand to look better.

I will say that my fingernails look much better in person than they do in that picture.

Here is another technique I want to try!

This technique features Soraphine again as well as Myriam!  I’m not sure how to achieve those skinny lines! It’s something I’ll definitely have to experiment with!

Julep Maven, Cupid’s Mystery Box – Venus, Mani Lover

Hi all!!

I recently received my Cupid’s Mystery Box from Julep Maven!! I picked the Venus, Mani Lover box, and I’m very pleased with what I received!

Before I review the box, I’d like to give a little background on Julep Maven.  Julep is a beauty brand that focuses primarily on nail polish. A little while ago, they began a subscription box service.  A Julep Maven subscription costs $19.99 a month and comes with many great features.

Features include:

  • Free shipping
  • 20% off on all orders (not including your monthly box)
  • Five style profiles to choose from
  • The ability to send your box to a friend
  • The ability to skip a month if you don’t like what they are featuring
  • Reward points that transfer to free boxes and other items (I have quite a few reward points!!!)
  • And much, much more!

If you would like to subscribe, you can do so HERE. Your first box is FREE; you only have to pay for shipping (it’s only $3.99!)

Now let’s get to the review!

Cupid’s Mystery Box is a little different than the regular February Maven box.  Cupid’s Mystery box was more expensive ($24.99) but it came with more products than the regular monthly box! My mystery box came with $75 worth of product compared to the typical box that comes with $40 worth of product.

There were three different boxes to choose from: Venus – Mani Lover,  Aphrodite- Pedi Lover, and  Lindy- Makeup Lover. Each box featured a different pink polish.  I actually liked the polishes shown for the other two boxes way more than the polish that my box featured. I decided to get the Mani Lover box, because I figured I’d get more use out of manicure products than I would pedicure or makeup products.

Now onto the review!!

Here is my box! And my polka dot bed spread!!

Opening time!!

Contents include:

  • Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum
  • Rock Star Hand Crème
  • Freedom Polymer Top Coat
  • Nail file
  • Four Nail Polishes: Bette, Venus, America, and Madison

Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum (2.5 mL)

I received the serum originally in my intro box, so I’m not too thrilled to get it again.  I’ve used the serum a few times, but I haven’t seen much of a difference.  That may just be me though.  I don’t really pay attention to my cuticles, so I don’t care too much about treatments for them.  This may be a fantastic product but to me it’s pretty much useless.

Rock Star Hand Crème (1 oz)

I’ve used the crème once so far.  Well, technically, my friend used it.  We were trying to figure out how to open it when some squeezed out onto her hands. The cap doesn’t come off when you twist it; a tiny little hole opens up for the lotion to come out of.  I liked the way it smelled, and I’m pretty sure my friend liked how if felt on her hands.  One complaint I have is the weird way it opened! Luckily we weren’t squeezing the tube too hard, or it would have made a huge mess!

Freedom Polymer Top Coat (8 mL)

I am super duper excited about this product!  I’ve been wanting it for a while and was very pleased when it showed up in my mystery box!  I was planning on buying it if I didn’t receive it in this box.  I haven’t used it yet, but I will as soon as I get a chance! The instructions say to cure your nails under a 60-watt bulb.  I’m wondering if it works the same under compact fluorescent bulbs?  Those are the only light bulbs I have, so I hope it works!

From left to right we have

Bette: Electric neon purple crème

Venus: Pink quartz holographic chunky glitter

America: Red, silver, and blue glitter

Madison: Electric neon coral crème (Julep claims Madison is a neon pink polish, but I’ve used it and it’s definitely coral.)

I don’t have any pictures of my nails with these polishes on them, but I do have one recommendation.  Paint your nails with Bette and then paint Venus over top on one of your nails! It’s a great look and lots of fun!  I had mine painted like this earlier in the week, and I got quite a few compliments!

I loved all the polishes that came in my mystery box! I’m also quite pleased with the other products I received!

The preview window for the March box closed the other day, so I should be receiving that one soon!  I’ll be sure to post a review shortly after receiving it!
