DIY Brush Calligraphy Gift Tags

Hi everyone!

I have a super quick and easy Christmas (or any holiday) craft for you!

I was wrapping some Christmas presents in my college apartment a few days ago when I realized that I didn’t have any gift tags! Uh oh!  I quickly realized that I could easily make some tags out of sticker paper and brush pens!

Supplies:

  • Avery sticker paper
  • Colored pens or markers
  • Scissors

I’ll be using Tombow Dual Brush Pens but Crayola markers will work as well!

There are only three steps to this little craft.

  1. Write/Draw your desired names
  2. Cut out the names
  3. Stick them on your packages

Here’s a video of me demonstrating my brush lettering technique.

To achieve lettering like mine, all you have to do is apply pressure on the down stroke and release the pressure on the up stroke.  Sounds easy doesn’t it?  The steps are easy, but it takes a little bit of practice!  Definitely test out your writing on some printer paper before your start writing on the sticker paper!

For more tips, check out Pieces Calligraphy!  I follow her on Instagram, and she is fantastic!

Here’s the name I wrote in the video above.

The sticker paper absorbs the ink a little differently than sketchbook paper, so some of the edges are a little choppy.  I like to go back and smooth out a few of the edges.

IMG_7117

Now we cut!

I like to cut in a wavy pattern and conform to the edges of the name.

All of the tags I’ve made so far have been for girls, so I’ve dotted every “i” and “j” with a heart.  The hearts add even more cuteness to the tags!

Time to peel and stick!

I’ve been placing my tags on the backs of my packages, but they’d also look quite nice on the front!

Here are the fronts of a few of my very pretty packages!

A few more pretty tags!

I absolutely love how these gift tags turned out!

They were so quick to make and look fantastic!

Happy Crafting and Merry Christmas!

DIY Hand Embroidery – Cursive Name

Hi everyone!

I love writing my name, so I decided to embroider my name on some pretty fabric!

IMG_1601Supplies:

  • Fabric (I got mine at Jo Ann’s.  Isn’t it beautiful?!)
  • Embroidery hoop
  • Embroidery floss
  • Pencil
  • Needle

IMG_1605DMC Floss Color:

  • 451 – grayish brown (I promise it matches in real life!)

IMG_1598Start by writing your name (or the name of your friend 🙂 ) on the fabric.

IMG_1606Just Back Stitch over the pencil lines.

This project is super easy but also very pretty!

IMG_1614Finish off the Back Stitch and dot your I’s (or J’s) with a French Knot.

I love how this project is super quick but turns out so pretty and thoughtful (such a good gift idea!)

DIY Hand Embroidery Motif – Cursive Initial

Hi everyone!

I made this little project for one of my grandlittles the other day and decided to share it with you! IMG_1176Supplies:

  • Embroidery hoop (6 inch)
  • Embroidery floss
  • Fabric (I used muslin)
  • Needle
  • Pencil

IMG_1179DMC Floss Colors

  • 158 – dark blue
  • 164 – light green
  • 326 – magenta
  • 712 – cream (optional)

IMG_1187We’re going to start with the light green thread and feather stitch around the edge of the hoop. IMG_1189I’ve never used the feather stitch before this project.

I was surprised with how much I liked it.  It’s easy, quick, and pretty.  What more could I want? IMG_1195The feather stitch is a great way to create vines and ivy. IMG_1198After completing the wreath, place a dark blue, double wrapped French Knot on each “leaf” on the inside of the wreath. IMG_1202Keep going around the circle.

My fabric is very thin, so you can see the connecting threads under the fabric.  That really started to annoy me, so I went back and cut the connecting threads and tied them off. IMG_1204Use the magenta thread and place double wrapped French Knots on each outside “leaf.” IMG_1209Keep going around until the circle is complete. IMG_1212The finished floral wreath. IMG_1216Use your pencil to draw a cursive initial in the center.

I chose “J” because my grandlittle’s name is Jessica. IMG_1218Use the magenta thread and Stem/Outline Stitch the initial. IMG_1220If you’re not a fan of the Stem Stitch, the Back Stitch would also look pretty!IMG_1228Once the initial is stitched, the project is complete!

So simple but so pretty!

Happy Crafting!

DIY Personalized, Polka Dot Canvas

Hi guys!

Several months ago, I made personalized canvases for both of my grandlittles! (I’m getting so old!)

Today, I’m going to show you how you can make one too! DSCN3603Supplies:

  • Canvas (I believe mine are 5″ by 7″)
  • Paint brushes (One big and one small)
  • Round, foam stamp brush
  • Gold Sharpie
  • Paint
  • Pencil

DSCN3614Here’s a close-up of the brushes I used. DSCN3608Martha Stewart Crafts Acrylic Paint:

  • Wedding Cake – High Gloss
  • Greek Tile – Satin
  • Gold – Metallic

I apologize for the blurry picture!

DSCN3064Start by painting your canvas(es).

I always like to give mine at least 2 or 3 coats of paint.

DSCN3069Use the foam stamp brush to add gold dots randomly on the canvas.

The stamp brush isn’t perfect.  It’s easier and will end up looking cleaner if you only use a small amount of paint on the stamp brush.  After stamping, you’ll have to fill in the circle with your small paint brush.

DSCN3078Now, add white dots on top.

Since we’ll be writing names in the middle of our canvases, try to avoid putting the dots there.

DSCN3086You’ll have to give the dots several coats of paint to make sure that they are opaque.

Only use the stamp brush for the initial dot.  Use your paint brush for the subsequent coats of paint.

DSCN3100Before writing the names on your canvas(es), practice on some paper!

DSCN3089First, I wrote the names in pencil.  Then, I traced them with the gold sharpie.

After writing the names, our project is complete!

DSCN3098So quick, so easy, and very Kate Spade! 😉

Happy Crafting!!
