DIY Hand Embroidery Motif – Spring Strawberries

Hi everyone!

I have another quick and easy embroidery project for you!

Supplies:

• Doddle Stitching: The Motif Collection by Aimee Ray (Get it here!)
• Embroidery hoop (4 inch)
• Embroidery floss
• Needle
• Fabric (I used gingham)
• Scissors
• Pencil
• Sharpie

DMC Floss Colors:

• 321 – red
• 700 – green
• 727 – light yellow
• 3840 – light blue

This is the strawberry motif we will be using.

Print out the motif and trace over it with your Sharpie.

Then, trace the motif on to your fabric.

We’re going to start by stitching all of the red parts.

This entire project is created by using the Back Stitch.

If you’d like, you can use Lazy Daisies instead of the Back/Straight Stitch for the seeds.

I tried Lazy Daisies first, but they were too big and made the berry look cluttered.

If you don’t like the seed placement in the original design, you can always move them around or add a few more!

Use your light yellow thread to stitch the center of the flower.

If you’re comfortable with the Satin Stitch, you could use that instead of the Back Stitch.

Use the light blue thread for the flowers.

The design shows the petals as a little squared off.  I liked the look, so I tried to emulate it as much as possible!  One petal turned out rounded, but oh well!  I’m all about adding character to my pieces! 😉

Now, on to the green!

Since the majority of the green areas are straight lines, I made my stitches a little bit longer than usual.

I tried my best to define the points on the leaf.  Some of the points did end up muddled though.

The easiest way to define the points is to only use one stitch for each side of the point.  Does that make sense?

I think I did the best on the middle leaf!

If you are comfortable with the Stem Stitch, you can use that instead of the Back Stitch.

Once you’ve stitched the vine, your berries are complete!

I think this is possibly the berry cutest project I’ve ever made! 🙂
