I can never resist taking a few craft supplies with me anytime I leave the house for more than a couple of days! So today, I’m sharing a little inside peek at the travel lettering supplies I took with me on my most recent trip!
Travel Lettering Supplies
First, let’s start with my writing utensils! I packed a variety of options to suit a plethora of creative moods!
Brush Pens:
- Tombow Dual Brush Pens – A tried and true lettering staple! I love the medium brush nib and the variety of colors available! With these in my bag, I’m ready for whatever creative inspiration hits me!
- Marvy Uchida LePen Flex – A smaller-nibbed brush pen perfect for daintier letterings pieces. I also love the color variety provided by these pens.
- Faber Castell Albrecht Durer Water Color Markers – A large-nibbed marker for those bigger projects. I like to use these markers for small phrases that I want to make a big impact.
- Tombow Fudenosuke Colors – I like to use these pens to create shadows when using the Faber Castell markers above. The gray one in this set is the perfect shade for subtle shadows.
- Zebra Funwari Fude Brush Pen – These pens are similar to the Tombow ones above, except they come in different colors. I like variety (clearly!), so I traveled with both options!
Other Pens:
- Tombow MONO Drawing Pens – I love these for detail work, monoline lettering, or for the line drawings I’ve been obsessed with recently.
- Illustrated Faith Journal It Pen – A colored version of the detail pens listed above. I use these almost daily in my morning journal.
Pencils:
- Tombow Irojiten Colored Pencils – Another must-have for the line drawings I’ve been doing recently. I like using these colored pencils to add some life and excitement to my little drawings.
- Paper Mate Clearpoint Mechanical Pencil – And another must-have! These are my favorite mechanical pencils and are great for sketching. I love that they come with a large eraser too! Perfect for removing any sketch marks on your finished work.
Paper & Notebooks:
Next up, let’s talk paper options!
- Rhodia Reverse Book, Dot Grid – If you’ve never worked with Rhodia paper, you need to get yourself a pad or two! It’s super smooth and great for lettering practice! I love the square shape of this pad and the fact that it’s spiral bound.
- Strathmore 400 Series Marker Pad – An excellent paper pad for finished pieces. This paper is incredibly smooth and works well with the Tombow, Marvy Uchida, and Zebra pens I packed for my trip.
- Canson Artist Series Montval Watercolor Paper – I like to use this paper with my Faber Castell markers. The watercolor markers are much juicier than any of the other pens I brought along, so this paper is a must to ensure warping doesn’t occur.
- JM Planning Essentials Dot Journal – This notebook has been my go-to for all my line drawings recently! It features a handy dot grid (my favorite type of grid) and Mohawk Via Paper, which is the cream of the crop when it comes to paper choices.
Well, that’s *all* I packed for my trip! I know it seems like a lot, but what can I say, I love to have options! I just never know what kind of mood I’ll be in or what colors I’ll want to work with!
