I have a crafting tutorial to share with you today!
It’s been entirely too long since I’ve shared a craft with you all! Unfortunately, I haven’t done all that much crafting recently. Hopefully, I’ll be doing more this fall and winter though. 🙂
Today, I’ll be showing you how to make these adorable lips and mustaches that go along with a guessing game that I put together for one of my best friend’s bridal shower!
I played this game at my sister-in-law’s bridal shower a little over a year ago. My version is a little different than what one of her bridesmaids created for her. I’ve taken elements from her version, some questions I found online, and a few of my own designs to create the version I’m sharing with you today. I hope you like it!
Supplies:
- Cardstock (either colored or white)
- Wooden dowels (I used 1/8 inch)
- Scissors
- Pencil (optional)
- Eraser (optional)
- Hot glue gun
- Lip and Mustache Printables
Before beginning this project, find out how many people are expected to attend the bridal shower. You are going to need two dowels per person! I didn’t take this into account when first purchasing my dowels, so I ended up having to make a second trip to the craft store!
There are three different methods to making the game props. This tutorial will mostly be for the more involved (a little more difficult) method that I used, but I have also outlined the easier methods below
Option 1: Print the Outline Printable onto colored cardstock and then cut out the individual lips and mustaches. Once all the lips and mustaches are cut out, simply hot glue them to the end of the wooden dowels. Now skip to Step 7!
Option 2: Print the Solid Fill Printable onto white cardstock and then cut out the individual lips and mustaches. Once all the lips and mustaches are cut out, simply hot glue them to the end of the wooden dowels. Now skip to Step 7!
Option 3 – The method I used:
Step 1: Print the Outline Printable onto white cardstock.
Step 2: Cut out two or three lips and mustaches to make traceable stencils.
Step 3: Use a pencil to trace as many lips and mustaches as you can onto pink/red and black cardstock.
After tracing an entire page, the original, white template was a little worn down. At that point, I switched to one of my other cutout templates.
Step 4: Cut out all of the lips and mustaches!
Step 5: Once all the lips and mustaches are cut out, go around the edges of each shape and erase the leftover pencil marks.
This can be tedious work, so I suggest you find a friend (I enlisted my mom!) and try not to do all the tracing, cutting, and erasing in one sitting!
Step 6: Once all the shapes are cut out and the pencil marks are erased, use hot glue to attach the shapes to the wooden dowels.
Be careful not to apply too much hot glue. The sticks are small and the paper isn’t all that thick. Too much glue could cause the paper to warp and glue to ooze out the sides of the dowel and the bottom of the shape.
Once the glue is dry, you can arrange all your pretty props in a vase!
Step 7 (or you can do this before Step 1): Ask your bride and groom a series of questions.
Your questions can be along the lines of favorites (favorite foods, favorite movies, favorite music, etc.) or they can be questions about the couple’s relationship (first date, first kiss, the proposal, etc.) I’ve played the game both ways and each way is very fun!
These are the questions that I asked:
- Who initiated the first date?
- Who initiated the first hand hold?
- Who initiated the first kiss?
- Who said, “I love you” first?
- Who met their future in-laws first?
- Who popped the question?
- Who will cry on the big day?
- Who keeps a cleaner car?
- Who is better in the kitchen?
- Who picked the honeymoon location?
- Who wants to have the most kids?
These are pretty generic questions that would work for any couple. If there’s something specific that pertains to your couple, then you can add those questions in and maybe subtract a few of mine! It’s up to you!
How to play the game:
Give every party goer both a lip and a mustache. Once everyone has their props, you’re going to begin asking the questions to the group. After you ask a question, party goers will hold up the lips if they think the answer is “bride” or they will hold up the mustache if they think the answer is “groom.”
For example, if they think the bride initiated the first date, they would hold up their lips and if they think it was the groom they would hold up their mustache.
I’ve played this game twice now, and both times it was tons of fun! The crowd always has a great time and sometimes they come up with their own questions and just start shouting them out! It’s very entertaining!! 🙂
Here’s my setup from the bridal shower.
Along with the Lip and Mustache guessing game, I also had two paper games and prizes to go along with those games.
I had so much fun with the games at this shower and several party goers said they loved them too! That pleased me quite a bit! 🙂
